Kleng77 Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 Hi all. I plan on buying a new bass soon, and since I've had some back problems I've been thinking of buying a lighter bass. Just wondering if anyone could recommend one. I'm mostly playing reggae/ska stuff, and I plan on spending about 600-700$ Quote
bass_ferret Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 Bass Collection are very light and lots of basses are made using swamp ash that is also light. Not sure what the USD buys though. Quote
Born 2B Mild Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 Check out Fender Aerodyne Jazz Basses. Mine feels light, and maybe a used one will fit your budget. Quote
budget bassist Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 a steinberger If you don't mind how it looks that is. Quote

Tait Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 ibanez SR500, or any of the SR series at that. or the ergodyne. Quote
budget bassist Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 (edited) Hmm, he has a weird way of wearing that bass, looks cool though. The steinberger i tried was very light. If you can get hold of a full graphite one... well... that probably won't weigh a ton but good luck to you!! Edited April 18, 2008 by budget bassist Quote
SpitfireXXII Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 Check these out. You can find them for sale on ebay in the USA and you'd have change... Very light, active bass that can do just about anything. I have a few of them and I'm a Biiiiig fan of them, oh, they look bada$$ too!!!!! In the used department the Fender Precision Lyte is a light bass and popular. I liked mine. Not what I would call a Reggae bass though.. a bit thin and active sounding. Quote

HarryPotter Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 Cort Curbow, lighter than my telecaster, lovely neck. Quote
BassBod Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 Worth looking up Birdsong in the states - shortscales, but very light with it? Not cheap mind.... BB Quote
FJ1200 Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 My Aria IGB40 is quite light. I have a lot of shoulder pain so it's about right. Mine's a passive P-J arrangement but the IGB range is quite extensive. Quote
kingforaday Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 if my grendel is anything to go by have a look at the czech made MTD (michael tobias design) basses (saratoga, kingston heir etc), mine feels really light and sounds and plays great. Quote
