Boss Micro BR quiet recording level from XLR

Hello,

Have recently got me a great wee Boss Micro BR. Mostly for use as a kind of musical sketchbook.

When I plug my bass straight in it sounds fine, actually really good. When I try to use the XLR outt from my Amp my level is way down and I can't really get much of a signal.

Anyone got a reason why?
