The Dark Lord Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Yeah, very good and all that. I can see that he is indeed quite skilled at doing wot he is doing .... but it's not bass playing to me. Give me Lynott, Foxton, Sting, Geddy, Lemmy and JJ. Quote

Nice little solo there, he's a very skilled player no doubt. Can't write a tune to save his life, if his albums are anything to go by. They bore me to tears. Aphex Twin on the other hand... Quote

MythSte Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Anyone notice how high his action is for that kind of thing? Steel fingers that lad. Quote

visog Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Much as I like SP, this is just a repetitive slid 7th chord with a bit of flutter... No I couldn't do it but I wouldn't want to... Bring back Hard Normal Daddy. And he looks like Bill Bailey in this which is distracting. Quote
AndThenSome1 Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Someone once played me a track of his that heavily relied on him playing harmonics on the bass - I've no idea what its called - anybody know which track i'm on about? Quote

He has too much of a mathematical approach to songs, quite a lot of production going on. He is a hell of a musican though. Quote
JakeBrownBass Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Forget the bass playing, that drummers left hand on the hi-hat is insanely tight at those speeds! Quote

BluRay Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Clever and breathtakingly tight as I'm sure it is - I think it sounds utter sh*te. I'll get my coat. Quote

I like that high action slap sound he gets, nice, tight and articulated. Garry Edited May 10, 2012 by lowdown Quote
BigRedX Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 He may be a great bassist, but the track in the OP is the most boring and uninspired thing I've heard him do. Not a patch on the brilliant Iambic 9 Poetry posted above ^ Quote
