7string
I've got a problem with my BB400 and I hope that someone can help me out. Under the pickup there are red and black wires which connect the 2 sides of the single P-style pickup. Can anyone please take a photo of the underside of the pickup so I can solder the wires back to the right connections. Here's hoping someone can help. Horizontalste
I'l get the one out of my 300 tomorrow and have a gander, it should be the same.
geoffbyrne
Actually, if it's a single pickup, it doesn't matter which side you solder them to - it would only matter if there were 2 pickups & you might have an out-of-phase issue. G.
7string
Usually that would be the case, but with this pickup the 2 halves of the P pickup are connected outside the casing. Each half has 3 lugs. Thanks Horizontalste. I look forward to seeing the pic.

7string
Thanks for posting that. It's a shame that our 2 basses don't match. Here's the underside of my pickup. Ignore the loose red wire on the right. That was me trying to find out what goes where. Needless to say I didn't have much luck. If anyone can think of a solution, I'd be grateful for ideas.
Horizontalste
I've not seen one like that before, keep bumping I'm sure someone here will have the answer.
ikay
Might be worth contacting Yamaha in Milton Keynes - UK Technical Support is available by telephone on 0844 811 1116 - Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm (4.30pm on Friday). Speak to someone there and email them a pic, they may be able to help
Ruck
The Black and Red wires in the middle connecting the pickups on your picture are in the correct paths according to my BB1200 pickup. Sorry to say! Ill post a picture of mine in a min.
Ruck
Heres mine which I got taken out and replaced with the new BB2024 pickup. Call me mad for modding a classic but the new pickups sound incredible and just look like they were meant for the bass. So if you you need a spare I guess I can part with my old bb1200 pickup for a reasonable fee if you end up needing one.
ikay
Ruck, where did the hot and cold wires from the controls attach to the pickups? In the pic from 7string the red and black leads on the lower coil look suspiciously like they're both soldered to the brass bottom plate which might be part of the problem
Ruck
I didnt do the the job but, There is an end of a white wire coming from the prong which is closest to where it says "BB" (As in where 7-string has a loose red were sticking up). The only other prong what looks like its had a wire removed is where the black wire connects on the pickup which says "BB". The rest of the original solder joints look untouched. 7string
The pic made perfect sense and the bass now has some sound. Just needs strings and a new nut, which I'm cutting from a Micarta blank, and some new knobs. The old one's don't look great and don't fit the new pots anyway. Edited May 18, 2012 by 7string
