The Bass Doc Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 How sad I saw him play in Newcastle last time around (2005?) And the main band I play in is called The Stax Brothers......... Quote
Hutton Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 This is very sad news indeed. He was a legend in his own lifetime. Quote

dudewheresmybass Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 A genuine legend and inspiration I bassists everywhere whether they realise or not! Thank you duck My favourite quote of his comes from the blues brothers film - " we had a band powerful enough to turn goat piss into gasoline" Quote
foal30 Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 No good. His contribution to those great Sam and Dave and Otis Redding records is high class. Quote
kevin_lindsay Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 Goodness, another bass brother has departed. He'll be missed, but as someone already mentioned, we have some great memories of him http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U-7QSMyz5rg&sns=em Quote
gary mac Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 oh no. I was about to go and have a potter around the garden but now feel inclined to sit here, contemplate and listen to some of his work. Actually think it will be ipod/ear phones and garden. Quote
BB3000S Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 Too soon. Very many amazing grooves came from Duck, an incredibly gifted player. RIP and thanks for a lifetime's worth of inspiration. Quote

geoffbassist Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 (edited) I can't imagine having a better career or bringing as much joy so as many people as Donald Duck Dunn. RIP Check out this great 2 minute Dunn history. http://m.youtube.com/?reload=7&rdm=m3nv5b6j4#/watch?desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DCKGPrS1zi-Q%26sns%3Dfb&sns=fb&v=CKGPrS1zi-Q&gl=GB Edited May 13, 2012 by geoffbassist Quote

Doctor J Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 RIP Duck. What a great player. He really did have a band powerful enough to turn goat piss into gasoline. Quote
Nibody Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 (edited) Well.. The Ox, Levon Helm, Duck, My Grandad. Its official - all of my Heroes are now Ghosts. I'll tell you one thing, I bet there's one mother of a Jam session going on inside the Pearly gates., I can remember an interview where he described slap as "party tricks" though apparently his son was quite good at it. In his words "If you want party tricks, get someone else. You want me, get The Duck" Edited May 13, 2012 by Nibody Quote
Bigwan Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 Very sad... Blues Brothers and a cold one this afternoon I think... Quote
Green Alsatian Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 Very sad to learn of this - another great gone. The Norwegian Stax Volt Tour is awesome - what a band, with Duck's bass prominent and thumping away! Quote
