Big_Stu
My first reaction too was "Oh no", the old Stax team seem to be going down fast. Steve C had a genuine brotherly love for Duck, they went way way back, talked about him incessantly, both lefties playing righties etc etc. Maybe I'll email him later but doubtless he'll be inundated. Horrible day & it's not long begun! Thanks Duck, for your essential part of "the" sound!!
Lenny B
Sad news - I learned so much from this guy, what a groove, what a player
toneknob
To the ears of the teenage yet-to-be bassist me, the bass here sang louder than Aretha. Which is saying something. JPS
Terrible loss, one of the true greats and one of the reasons I play bass. RIP DDD.

MoJoKe
Rest in Peace. What a legend. I learned so much of my thing from his playing. I read on the BBC he played two gigs in Tokyo and died in his sleep. Can't think of a better, more peaceful end...
Davebassics
Would like to pay my respects to the bassist who most influenced and shaped my blues bass playing. I remember looking at his bass in hard rock orlando, I was in awe. R.I.P Donald Duck Dunn
pietruszka
RIP, always a fan of a solid player. Does any one know if Trevor Dunn (of Mr. Bungle/fantomas) is his son? Dan
Rimskidog
very sad. one of my favourite bass players ever. RIP bro. Here's the appropriate line from the Blues Brothers: "You were the backbone. The nerve centre of a great rhythm and blues band. You can, make that live, breath and jump again. Murph and the Magic tones? Look at you in those candy ass monkey suits. And I thought I had it bad in Joliet."

Oldman
Nothing to add really, went the only way you can as a legend. Best make the most of what's left to me ;(

von Braun
Aye, truly some player. I don't think it gets better than "Soul Man" for pure bass drive. Johnny Walker is doing something of a tribute on his Sounds of the Seventies slot at the moment.
flyfisher
Saddened to hear this on the radio earlier today. Glad I got to see him play (during the Clapton RAH concerts in the 90s) but sorry to see him go, especially at only 70. Great legacy though. RIP. skankdelvar
Such a shame he's gone So many of the greats are reaching 'that age' now - it's going to be tough ten years or so for the rest of us.
