KASH
I'm on the market for a used P bass.Everywhere I look seems to be in the £300 region, isn't that a bit too much?? Not too long ago you could grab a good one in the £200 ish region! wtf??
Ou7shined
P basses are "in" again just now. There are still some nice Jap basses to be found if you keep an eye out... <snip>. Edited May 14, 2012 by Ou7shined
Al Heeley
+1 for jap fenders, I'd choose one over a MIM on most occasions
KASH
I am also considering an aerodyne and i've seen a few for £400ish which is fair, same goes for rays, for example, you can still get one for £700-800, and it's been like that for quite a few years. i just think £300+ for a MIM is expensive, or maybe it's just me!! GregBass
I bought an MIM 60th anniversary P-bass in pretty damned good nick last week for a touch under 230. It was put on ebay by a shop which had it on display at 499!!!!
Conan
The price difference between Squiers and MIMs seems to be closing now. Why?
Arguably, because a lot of Squiers have better specs, and are at least as well made. I would take a Squier VM Jazz over a MIM Jazz any day (and yes, I have owned both!). KASH
what do you think of this? KASH
the ashtray is not included in the sale...way too precious tbh though it has exactly everything i'm looking for, even the colour, it's just the bass itself that is putting me off...and the price, considering. But it does blur the boundaries somewhat as you now have Squiers selling at similar prices to "genuine" Fenders. Or whatever passes for a "genuine" Fender these days! Ghost_Bass
Hyjacking this topic, what about a Classic 50's P (MIM too)? How much could they fetch? I'm thinking about putting mine up for sale and am trying to determine a fair price for it with the mods i made (deluxe humbucker added on bridge position, new electronics alpha/orange drop wuth concentric vol/tone pots for each pickup and two resistors to eliminate crosstalk between pickups...). Cheers
I agree with you there, it is a squire and it say's squire on the headstock, it doesn't say fender. But I feel that the Jazz feels the same, if not better quality than the P. With regards to the price, I don't think I would have paid £300, but I think it's only worth what people are willing to pay for it. It just so happened that someone was willing to part with £300 for it.
lojo
I've had my mim p up for £350 it's newish with a brand new replacement neck (fender fitted due to fault) Have bumped much but had interest initially I reckon it would go if I lowered it to £300, had someone pull out who was willing to pay the £350 but for reasons not connected to the pricing of the bass No harm in you offering for every bass you like, you may find you get the deal you want Edited May 17, 2012 by lojo
KASH
£350? wow!! it looks like there is market for the £300+ after all. I would be willing to pay around £250ish, which I think is a fair price. As you said, no harm in making a lower offer, but if one can sell it for 300, why sell it for less??
KASH
Got confirmation, it is actually an Affinity series. How much would you pay for this? http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/squire-p-bass-fender-black-wtortoiseshell-pick-guard-seymour-duncan-quarter-pounders-badass-bridge/101652852
Conan
I bought a used Squier Affinity P for £65 on here. Condition good but not brilliant (this one looks to be at least as good). Add maybe £35 for the SPB-3 and £40 for the bridge? Not sure you can ask for more money due to the scratchplate - even if it's a genuine Fender one! Maybe a tenner tops. I think £200 is rather steep. Not sure I would go above £160 for this example, unless it is a spectacularly good player!
KASH
the bass seems pretty beaten up. i was looking to offer around maybe £150 tops? Is that about right?

Or 2nd hand for well under £100 in excellent condition. My advice would be look for a 2nd hand bargain then upgrade it as/when & if necessary. Many parts come up in the bits for sale at prices far below what the seller is quoting. You were hoping for a MiM? Keep searching, if you're luck you could find one around the £200.
