Petrol cost for gigs

I've a couple of dep gigs coming up that include fuel costs as well as the wage - is there a standard £ per mile cost for this kind of thing ?
I thought the MU had a rate but can't find it anywhere.

If you ask for the full HMRC allowance of .45/mile you'll probably price yourself out. I get paid .16/mile every gig I do and that just covers diesel at 40mpg. Try .20/m and you'll be doing fine.

I must be doing it wrong, I've never charged per mile, just a set price per gig

We add £10 per man ( £50 on the band fee for pub dates ) for a round trip of £50 miles.

The cost of fuel is becoming a deal breaker for me.

A couple of bands are turning down some long distance gigs because of the cost of getting there.

Locally I've noticed fewer cars on the roads this last 6 months.The government is killing the motoring golden goose.

I charge 40p/mile for fuel as part of booking out my band bus for anything out of the local area and find that just about covers it for a LWB Transit full of people and gear, although with the most recent price bumps I think I'm actually selling myself short now. In a car with just yourself I wouldn't expect it to cost anywhere near that, mind you.

It's good to keep a rough idea of how much milage you get from your car. For me 100 miles costs about £12. I just invoice for roughly what it costs.
Most of the time it's a case of a flat fee and I work out the true fee after fuel to help me decide if it's worth it.

It's only getting harder out there for musicians to make a living.

Its tough out there now. I used to think nothing of 100 mile round trip but that's about 14 quid of fuel.
Lucky i don't have to rely on my gig money as i did 12 years ago

thanks for the replies all - i just wanted to check as last time I was in this situation the band leader thought £20 was enough for a 250 mile round trip !!
