4 Strings Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 Working away here, listening to a live Jackson 5 recording and Jermaine is pretty hot on that bass! Wonder why he wasn't used for the recordings. (Wilton Felder on most of the early ones, I understand sounds like he used a pick, whereas Jermaine sounds like fingers) Quote
discreet Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 6' 6" double bed? Isn't that a Super Kingsize? Quote
originalfunkbrother Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 I like to think that Motown was pretty strict in their productions. The Motown Machine was well oiled with session players so Jermaine had no need to be on the bass in studio sessions. Not sure if that changed when he went solo. On 'Lets Get Serious' it could have been him on bass or Nathan Watts, I am not sure. But I have seen videos of him playing and singing that song live. Quote

risingson Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 It was Nathan Watts on the majority of Jackson 5 stuff and definitely him on 'Let's Get Serious' (Stevie Wonder wrote the song, sang the middle 8). IMO Nathan is a vastly underrated slap player, very distinct style. Quote

4 Strings Posted May 18, 2012 Author Posted May 18, 2012 Wharwhar, about the sh*ts! I'm sure there was a range of bass players used on their studio work but Jermaine's playing live is really good, much better than I was expecting, doesn't duck out of anything. Quote
