KevB Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 Dance music was never my thing but I remember 'I Feel Love' coming out and the impact it had, nothing sounded quite like it. Georgio Moroder mainly responsible for the whole sequencing thing on it I think and Summer's voice is the icing on the cake.. Quote

Spent last night working on the bass line to this ready for a tribute during rehearsals tonight. RIP Donna, without you I would have been able to remember most of the 80s and 90s. You left us a great legacy. Quote

51m0n Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 R.I.P Donna, totally world class act, Moroder and her redefined dance music completely, everything else was stale the minute I Feel Love was released. Quote

Along with her 70's stuff, i just loved her duet with Barbra Streisand on Enough is Enough [No more tears] Fantastic arranging and Musicianship all round. Kiwi Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 Sad news indeed I Feel Love is one tune I've been slightly obsessed with technically ever since getting into synthbass. Quote
Bilbo Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 Hated everything she did then and still hate it now. Nevertheless, 63 is no age and my condolences to her kith and kin. Quote
crez5150 Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 We do a couple of DS numbers.... will be paying tribute tomorrow night with a funky rendition of Bad Girls..... Sad loss Quote
Silvia Bluejay Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 I was at Middle School in Florence when I Feel Love exploded on the scene. So many memories. And her Bad Girls album also means a lot to me. One of my musical aspirations is one day to disentangle and learn to play the bassline to Hot Stuff (disco mix version). There are so many instruments on that song I still get confused when trying to analyse it. RIP Donna. Immortal through your music. Quote
mcnach Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 Nooo What a coincidence that last week I put a whole lot of Donna Summer in my car's MP3 player... I had a huge crush on her when I was 12 or so. Quote

And why be a hypocrite and offer condolences to the family of someone you've never met and hate their artistic output. Strange and a little bit sad. Edited May 19, 2012 by steve-soar Quote

grunge666 Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 This is very sad & as a huge KISS fan of 32+ years, particularly so. Neil Bogart started Casablanca Records in 1973 and the 1st two acts he signed were Donna Summer and KISS! Donna also sang back up vocals on the track 'Burning Up With Fever' on Gene Simmons 1978 solo album. RIP Quote
bassace Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 The bass player on a lot of her stuff, Les Hurdle, and I were at school together at Forest GS, Winnersh. Last time we played together he was on guitar and I played washboard. But that was a very long time ago. Always liked her stuff, particularly that unique sound to her voice. RIP Quote
