Heydavidiii
It's great the way that the official Covent Garden website swells you with enthusiasm about visiting Denmark Street : "London's "Tin Pan Alley" is quite simply Europe’s best music street, filled with specialist music shops and thronging with people passionate about music. There’s hardly a rock and roll legend that hasn’t visited at some time. Music history has been made here; The Beatles and Jimmi Hendrix recorded in the basements... Elton John wrote the classic Your Song on the rooftops..." I am guessing that the "throngs of people passionate about music" that they refer to are the punters, because I saw no evidence of this today behind the counters when enquiring about basses at least. The uninspiring collection of usual suspect, safe bet, expensive/over-priced basses added to the whole malaise. I hope that any youngster excited about buying their first bass don't talk mum and dad into trip to Denmark Street, because it's enough to put you off for life. Much better to go to a local music shop I reckon. Gotta say that Argents the music book shop saved the day as always though...
Truckstop
Oh, I thought this was going to be a thread about Stevie Ray Vaughns greatest song But oh well, yes I agree. Denmark street is a shadow of its former self. Worth a visit just to have a few beers at the Intrepid Fox. Might see someone famous!
