lurksalot Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 I keep seeing numbers in our set in here We generally open first set with Rem , one I love , warbler likes it for warming up with . second set often starts with Queen , tie your mother down ,that runs into stereophincs , local boy in a photograph Quote
Gust0o Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 Go with this, and then it's all upwards from there http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCARADb9asE Quote
ern500evo Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 1st set The bartender and the thief or local boy in the photograph, 2nd set usually starts with Black Rebel Motorcycle Club- Whatever Happened Quote
bigash Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 Molly's chambers, Kings of Leon. Nice and simple. Quote
JPS Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 My last band used to normally start with Beautiful Day by the Levellers - unless it was a wedding and we had learnt a first dance. Always seemed to go down well and get us warmed up nicely. Quote
vsmith1 Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 We have changed our openers as we are often in the same pub but recently we have started set 1 with You've Really Got Me and Set 2 with Chasing Cars. Quote
the_skezz Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 Ex-punk band used to open with the Sex Pistols' Holidays in the Sun - not a bad opener in all fairness, worked well enough at opening the album Quote
BigRedX Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 My covers band (mostly 70s rock) Set 1: "Since You've Been Gone" Set 2: "Can't Get Enough" or "Coz I Luv You" Quote
mikegatward Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 Fight for your right (Beastie Boys) Power chord, a load of feedback and the singer shouts 'Kick it' Sets the tone for the rest of the set Quote
2pods Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 Our last lot usually started with "Lovely Day" (Bill Withers), then "Down Under" Second set started with "I wish" with the "Sir Duke" riff tagged on the end. I think they liked to make sure I was sober Quote
4-string-thing Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 Best opener ever..... Prime Mover by Zodiac Mindwarp And The Love Reaction, Brilliant! Quote
sshorepunk Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 Dont do many covers gogs, but when we do, we find this works well.... Slow version of Baba O'riley! Guitarist makes the keyboard part (sort of) and loops it Then we all hit the big chords, four times round, big chords, big cymbals etc, then hold the F, guitarist reverses the loop, we hold it a bit, then drummer counts into..... My Generation! seems to work and it has a little bass bit in it Quote
bassfunk Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 We start first set with a Proud Mary/Think/Kiss medley, then 2nd set with All Right Now, seems to work well. Last wedding we did there was a circle around a couple having a Tina Turner dance off on the dance floor, and that was the first song! Quote

Salt on your Bass? Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 1st set - trex, 20th century boy 2nd set - undertones, teenage kicks Seems tö work.....we do change it up a bit though. Quote
samzemuel Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Valerie - Amy Winehouse version works quite well for us, followed up by Smooth - Santana. I have to say most pubs we play in and private events want you to ease them into it. Just played in a pub right in the city of London and the venue wanted two sets of easing them into it! This lead to some jammed out shuffle version of all the small things, quite fun suprisingly Quote
Hodge Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 We start the first set with "Dreaming of You" - The Coral. This means I get to start and have my four seconds of glory. Second set starts with "Whistle for the Choir" - The Fratellis. This means I'm free to sort out my drink, have a good scratch and hoist up my trousers while all the adoring girls make eyes at the guitarist/singer. Quote
