jay
I've been checking out some Kala Ubass's and can't believe the tone you can get out of them! Apparently all that deep tone is coming out of the polyurethane strings. In the absence of £300-400 sitting around to buy one, I was wondering what those type of strings might sound like on my regular acoustic (not double). So two questions I suppose, Do long scale polyurethane strings exist? Would they work/sound good on a regular acoustic bass? Any comments much appreciated! Thanks

Dood
Check out this chirpy lil chap with rubber strings. I guess it would be a fore-runner to the Kala http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ashbory_bass http://www.largesound.com/ You can buy the shorter strings for these instruments ok, but I seem to remember that there was a reason why long versions weren't *really* possible. Tension and tuning I guess?
Dood
p.s. there's a video floating around from a BassChat 'Bash' back in the day when the forum was called BassWorld, where I am ill treating an Ashbory bass with a bit of slap n' tap! EDIT - found it! on my rather old MySpace! http://www.myspace.com/video/dood-on-bass/the-bassworld-bash-2007-northampton/7199917

jay
But do cheese strings sound better? I'll have to give that a go... Any suggestion as to some nice doublesk sounding strings to pop on an acoustic?
zipideebass
I got a nice balanced sound on my warwick alien with black nylon Gallon strings. Not p'urethane really, must have had a metal core. Think I got from stringbusters or such to try and liked them. Good subject m8
