FuNkShUi
Hi quick question for anyone who has experience in playing in standard D tuning. What string gauge would you use? Ive got a Sandberg JM4 that ive always used in standard tuning, but due to a new project, im required to drop the tuning down. I can do this with the strings i have, but was wondering if it would benefit me to use thicker strings? Cheers in advance
brensabre79
logically speaking, yes thicker strings will keep their tension at lower pitch. But you may have to irreversibly customise your bass to accomodate. i.e. the nut and possibly the bridge will need to be filed to accomodate a thicker string. If this is not an option you could look at DR strings website. they do a set of standard gauge strings that are designed for tuning down. I can't remember what they are called though

MrTaff
I've used EB Power Slinkys 50-110's for D standard and Drop C, no nut or bridge mods needed on my P, just the truss rod & intonation needed tweaking.
