Hello all,

I've sorted myself out with a day off tomorrow and I'm gonna spend the day recovering my cab (don't worry, there will be a proper build diary when it's all done)!

Because it's a bit of a surprise to get the day off, I've not yet bought the adhesive for the tolex!

Anyone know where I can go out and get some in the morning? Ordering it in's not an option because I want to work on it tomorrow innit

Cheers

Alex

Spray adhesive making a house a home at Your local diy superstore Making it easier. Every little helps. I'm loving it.

I've seen it in Artist supply shops, or hobby-craft places. I'm not sure it's the best stuff, though because it seems to be used to fix stuff temporarily. I know Jeff at Matamp uses ordinary PVA glue that you can get from most DIY and Builders Merchant type places. He applies it with a decorators roller.

Here you go.. It's not official Matamp, It's a pity, because it would have been better to have Jeff talking than having to listen to the dreary soundtrack..

I bought some from Maplin a while back.
[/quote]Yea, 15 quid for a can of air? Wilko's or b&q. Theres a thing called 'the range' in leicester that has a good craft section.

Gotta be slightly careful buying glues for vinyl fabric (flexible PVC). Plasticisers in the vinyl can leach out and stop the glue setting properly. Using a proper flexible vinyl adhesive is the safest option - I've used Stikatak from B&Q (check the vinyl flooring section) as a brush/trowel on glue and it's pretty forgiving, takes a while to dry so allows for repositioning but sticks well when dry. It's also fairly cheap, just under £4 for a litre pot or £8 for 2.5l and is water-based so low on the nasty VOCs.
Stikatak also do a vinyl spray adhesive that I saw in B&Q which may be faster? Many spray adhesives will specify that they're not for flexible PVC even if they're fine on uPVC (the rigid kind).
Hope that helps!

Dont get the wrong idea, Im not Mr safety conscious but be very careful with it. Use it outside if you can. Nasty stuff to breath in or get in your eyes! As another possible source you can use spray adhesive to stick soundproofing in cars. Try Halfrauds or car radio shops

If your still after some, I reckon you might get it for the best price at an upholsterers, or a carpet shop. Failing that, screwfix or Toolstation do it for about 4 or 5 quids.

Places like B&Q are just too expensive.

Exactly what I was going to say. I covered a cabinet about 15 years ago and its still going strong. I went to a local upholsterers who kindly gave me a 1/3 full spray can of industrial strength upholstry adhesive. So if you flutter your baby blues at the nice upholstry man he may give you one for free ;)

When I worked in graphic arts years ago they used "spray mount" adhesive. Gives your lungs a lovely stick coating when you breathe it in!
