PaulWarning
just read about the 'classic' line up of Quo to make an album and do a short tour, don't know about anybody else but the albums this line up made up to, but no including, Rocking All Over the World are some of my favourite records, one of the reasons I took up playing bass. I know Quo have become a bit of a joke in recent years, usually amongst people who don't know how to play, but I'm fond of telling my slightly younger band mates "Before punk all we had was Quo" I suppose John Edwards is a technically better player than Alan Lancaster but Lancaster's hard playing bass style, played with a pick, just seems to make them rock. Paul S
40 years ago they were powerful, fresh and one of the best live bands out there. Also the reason my hearing is shagged, after standing next to the giant PA cab at the Queen's Hotel in Westcliff as there was a vacant spot. Rob Young's harmonica did something to my brain. Delberthot
Yeah I'm all ears waiting for the announcement of venues and tickets. Apparently it was Rhino's idea for them to do it. Big Fat Mamma is one of my favourites of the old Quo stuff so I'm hoping for some of that and more of the old set
wombatboter
Recently I heard "Roll over lay down" again on the radio and it was really great to hear it back again..the whole structure of the song and the "quiet" passage struck me..
bremen
as I recall, Lancaster got sacked for refusing to play apartheid south Africa. are they now admitting he was right? bit like matlock getting sacked from the pistols for liking the Beatles then getting welcomed back when there was a few quid to be made, imho
jezzaboy
Big Quo fan here and I think that this is bad move. To be fair, I have never seen the original line up but looking at performances from the original line up compared to todays, I much prefer the now version. However, I realise that I may be in the minority here and I hope that it`s just for 1 album and tour. From what I read, Lancaster isn`t in the best of health so who knows what will happen. Lancaster hated doing all the non rocky stuff that Rossi quite liked doing and was succesfull in the charts. Also the fact that he had moved to Australia didn`t help matters. If you watch the rocking all over the world video, you will see that Lancaster is a puppet as he wouldn`t come back to film the video. He wasn`t best pleased!! PaulWarning
yeah, Lancaster was the rocker, that's why the band was never the same once he left, I may be wrong here but did he refuse to play on Living on an Island, saying he wouldn't be able to go home and face his family after playing on such sh*t, somebody will probably put me right on that one, but I hope it's right, great story

Donnyboy
Agree with a lot of the above. I thought Lancaster /Coghlan were great & loved Alan L's thumping, no nonsense, often agressive playing. The sound of the bass on the On the Level album is great. His tone changed for the worse when he stopped using his Fender Mustang in my view. Saw them in the late 70's/early 80's a few time & much preferred the original line-up. The glory days were probably over when JC left , but his going put a tin lid on it for me. Kinda curious about the latest developments.

Hobbayne
I remember reading somewhere about Lancaster refusing to go on tour if he had to play Margarita Time. Also he allegedly had a gammy left hand so Rossi redone all the bass parts after Lancaster left the studio on the final album.
