ashevans09 Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 What it says on the tin really, which of the two protects better? My Mesa is currently in an enclosure made by matamp, but for transport I was wondering if it would do better in a shock mount rack or a flight case for the head and enclosure? Thanks! Ash Quote
chris_b Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 A 400+ is a heavy beast and has lots of valves so I’d opt for more rather than less protection. It really depends on who is going to be moving your amp? If it's a bunch of "humpers" you don't know then I'd fully flightcase the lot. I kept my 400+ in an SKB 4u. Not a lot of protection, but I couldn’t afford the Mesa case, and as I was the only one who carried it and it only travelled in my car, it worked for me. Quote
crez5150 Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 Anything heavy should be in a shock mount case..... especially amplification. Just make sure it's got adequate ventilation vents Quote
Bassman Steve Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 My Bass 400 has been in a standard rack case for over 20 years without any problem. I run the fan on fast just to be on the safe side. The rack was custom made at 300mm depth so the back of the amp is near the back of the case. I have always moved it myself (and wired it up) even when travelling with a crew so it's treatment is down to me (I remember walking behind a guy carrying the guitarists valve head (on his shoulder) when he tripped and fell!!!
