jj1234
Hi chaps, I'm currently working on the stupidly fast intro to Cherokee from Nigel Hitchcock's 'Snakeranch Sessions', as played by Laurence Cottle -- a sax player I know has transcribed it for a recital and would probably be happy to pass along the transcription if anyone wants it. Not sure if I'll ever get it to full speed but here it is at 85%: http://youtu.be/oS2XQIPetv8 And here's a video of the man himself doing it much much faster and better: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XbuZF2YmhY&feature=player_embedded (http://johnjosephwilliamson.com/2012/05/25/cherokee-georges-recital-3/) Enjoy, John
Bilbo
Give your self the day off, mate . You have it faster than most sax players you will ever work with and have probably learned all you are going to from that exercise. Playing at those tempos is shallow showboating and serves little or no musical purpose. As I said elsewhere here, just because you can, doesn't mean you should I thought these guys were more mature than this. Clearly not
lowdown
To be honest, that Video is nearly 20 years old - show boating is part of youth. Musical maturity don't slow you down - old age does jj1234, well played mate. Garry
alstocko
Man, that's incredible! Cut yourself some slack! Next week you'll be saying: "why don't I have chops like Janek?" Seriously well done!
Bilbo
Your video linked me to this l;ovely version of Body And Soul. Nice sound bearing in mind the tiled wall! jj1234
thanks everyone for the varied comments -- only just clocked that this got any replies when I went for a lesson with geoff chalmers and he told me. In case anyone's interested, I didn't end up unison-ing this in the recital in the end, it was a bit too much with piano alto and drums already, but here's a recording from it. pretty tight drummer I think you'll agree: http://soundcloud.com/johnwilliamson-1/06-clinicology
alstocko
Super impressed! Yet another great product from Geoff's teaching (not including myself in that list, yet...) Edited June 9, 2012 by alstocko
