FS: HPA D500 Power Amplifier – 1U & 500W (SOLD - Many Thanks Everyone)

Recommended Posts

Really nice 1U power amplifier, featuring:

2x250W into 4 ohms, Bridged 500W into 8 ohms

Class D switching mode (one if not the best class of lightweight amps for us bass players)

Rare 1U in height (slip it and a 1U pre-amp of your choice into a very sleek 2U rack)

Unbalanced and balanced inputs (great for stage and studio work alike)

Speakon and binding post speaker connections

Weight – Just 4.6Kg

Depth – 13" (330mm)
In almost new condition. I acquired this power amp as part of a deal to get an Aguilar DB-659, but the amp in my combo is sufficient at the moment, I would really like to keep this, but I need the cash so it and some other rather tasty kit has to go :(

Costs about £160 to buy new, so how about £100 + delivery (that's just 20p per watt… :o )?

I'm looking for a lightweight 1U amp to pair with a bass preamp but the only specs that I can find online seem to show that this is 150w into 4 ohms and it doesn't specify if it is peak/RMS or whatever. Do you have a manual or website to get more accurate details?

Thanks for the questions and sorry for the delay in responding. I did not get a manual with the amplifier, but the specs I picked up from this web-site (http://www.planetsono.com/sonorisation/amplificateurs/amplificateur-numerique-de-puissance-hpa-d500-p-14324.html)

Certainly it is my experience with a number of power amplifiers that power output at 4 ohms is nearly twice that at 8 ohms (ohms law) and is simply double the 4 ohm load when bridged at 8 ohms. I have struggled to find out whether they are RMS watts or not, but it certainly seemed like a good 200+ watts of power when I tried it into a 4 ohm load.

If you find some more information, then please let me know (especially if any of my original post is wrong).

Right, found the web-site which helps confirm the power output ratings I originally posted were correct (http://www.hpa-audio.com/). I'll print a copy of the manual and include it with the amplifier.

It also confirms there is no fan, making this amp just great for studio work (with the option of balanced or unbalanced inputs) as well as stage work.
