A multi tool, door wedges (nothing worse than propping a door open with your foot when you are trying to load in and out), torch (dark stage area and clumsy band members always dropping stuff and an emergency drum key

Sweet :D I take it you go direct instead of using an amp? I've had awesome results doing that before. Thanks to the variety of quality gear out there its all you need!

just my bass and box of effects. what else do you really need?

That's me too. One bass, POD X3 LIVE, two cables, small tool box, small bass stand, 4 gang extension, small towel, used spare strings, silk gloves, Old Holborn, spare lighter and a spare pack of Rizla.

No amp, ever. I go direct from the POD.

In addition to all the normal stuff.

A small towel - Suits are hot on stage.
Optimistic felt tip pens - for signing CD's and female bits.
A pork pie hat - Take it on stage. turn it upside down and voila. A pefect place to put pocket contents - keys/mobile/change/wallet
Band business cards - For drunk people to remember what the band they saw the following day.

Haha :D

To be honest there are only 2 reasons why I use an amp:

1) Because I get to control how loud I am.

2) Having a big box with speakers in it behind you looks pretty cool

I'm sure I responded to a thread like this before, but in addition to all the essentials that I lug into the gig, I also keep a bag in the well under my car's boot, containing a mic lead, a jack lead, a kettle lead, and a mains 4-way.
