discreet Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 (edited) Doctor John - Locked Down - Woah! There haven't been many recordings I've heard recently where I've thought, 'Woah, I've got to get hold of this right now!' But last night I heard Dr John's new album 'Locked Down' and it's bloody magnificent. Some really world-class playing, great feel and groove, superb production, new, fresh ideas and a return to form for the old night tripper himself. The bass and drums on this album are just astonishing. Produced by Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys - which tells you all you need to know, really. If your thing is even anywhere near this, you owe it to yourself to at least give it a listen - every track on the album is a winner - no padding! Guaranteed! This YouTube teaser gives you only the slightest inkling... That is all! Edited May 26, 2012 by discreet Quote

Hector Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 Never listened to Dr.John Have bought the album though, as I loved the samples! Any recommendations for similar stuff? Quote
urb Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 I've only heard the track with Marcus M on it - of maybe I'm getting confused with the tune on his new album featuring Dr John - anyway whichever album it's on it's stonking stuff Quote
Not really similar (imho), but I keep being drawn back to El Camino (The Black Keys). Covers a lot of ground musically, great playing, brilliant retro production and yet fresh, exciting and interesting...
