I never cared for the Maple with black blocks. I do like a Baked Maple with Pearl inlays however.

Agree with that. I love blocks but not on a maple fretboard, no matter what colour they are.

I'm really in to black strings on a maple neck at the moment but still not a lot of love for the black blocks.

Black blocks don't bother me so much; it's the fugly smaller logo on late-'70s Fenders I really disapprove of. Thank God they're using the larger late-'60s/early-to-mid-'70s logo on the new Fenders posted in this thread ;-)
