daflewis Posted June 27, 2012 Author Posted June 27, 2012 Hi Markus, You've just added yourself to the list... Just out of interest, what strings are you using at the moment? Cheers, Daf
TheRev Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 I had a rehearsal with ny soul/jazz band last night using my Eminence EUB strung with the Rockabillys - as Daf suspected, there isn't really enough harmonic detail in these strings to work on walking bass parts or on jazzy solos. They did work very well on the old, slower soul numbers (A change is gonna come & Lilac wine) though. Perhaps the brighter tone of the super silvers will be more suited to this bass. All in all, I really enjoyed trying out these strings and have ordered a set for my ply DB, which they were really suited to. If you're looking for old school thump for country, bluegrass or old soul, then these strings may just be for you. I believe that Sarah is next on the list, so I'll send these across the Severn on Monday. Dave
sarah thomas Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 After a detour to Rayman, I now have the rockabillys and put them on my ply Boosey & Hawkes this afternoon. First impressions are that they are easy on the left hand, producing a pleasing dark sound although with less oomph and resonance than the Honeys. My limited bowing skills sound scrawpy on these strings. They are quieter than the Honeys. I'll try them amped tomorrow.
sarah thomas Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 Blimey. A different beast when amped, these strings kick out a thumpy and even woody-sounding punch. Wonderful for bluegrass and blues. Maybe I like a difficult life but the rockabillys are almost too easy to play. I've been practicing Rufus Reid's 'claw' left hand and these strings make it far too easy not to bother. If I wasn't so set on playing jazz then I would love these. As it is, the Honeys win the day. Are Super Silvers and Ultra Blacks going to be added to the trial? (Please?)
daflewis Posted August 8, 2012 Author Posted August 8, 2012 Hi Sarah, Too easy to play?!.... Cor, there's no pleasing some!
Are Super Silvers and Ultra Blacks going to be added to the trial? (Please?)
Yes they are... In fact I really should pull my finger out and sort them!
daflewis Posted December 1, 2012 Author Posted December 1, 2012 (edited) Hi all, Just doing a bit of housekeeping.... Anyone know where we're at at the moment? Ta, Daf P.S. I've added a list of people in the opening post. Edited December 1, 2012 by daflewis
ChrisF Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 Hi Daf can I put my name on the list for these strings please. cheers ...Chris
TheRev Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 (edited) OK, it's taken me a while to record these (and a bit longer to work out how to upload them), but here's the Innovation Rockabillys on my East German ply bass. The pickup is a K&K Bassmax, recorded straight into a Tascam DP004 https://soundcloud.c...kabilly/s-ahDbG For comparison, I've also recorded the Innovation Super Silvers. adam2180 Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 Im new here but I just bought a set of Rockabillys and I love them. Great strings!
ChrisF Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 What do you think about the tension on them Adam ?? Ive currently got Psycho-slaps on mine...the A and D are ok, but I find the E string way too loose and floppy, and the G string is a bit on the tight side for my liking.
adam2180 Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 I really like the tension. I think they are a really nice balance of playability and tone. I went from heaver steel strings to these, I gained in volume and a much more usable tone for the old timie stuff I play.
daflewis Posted February 10, 2013 Author Posted February 10, 2013 Hi all, Anyone know where we're at? Ta, Daf
daflewis Posted February 11, 2013 Author Posted February 11, 2013 (edited) Hi headofire, consider youself on there not sure where the trial set is at the moment, but there can't be more than one or two people in front of you... Cheers, Daf Edited February 11, 2013 by daflewis
sarah thomas Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 I had these strings last August. I think Jimryan said he wasn't interested any longer, so then they would have gone to Markus, which rings a bell. I have searched my message box, but there is nothing there relating to these strings, unlike all the other sets I tried. Sorry I can't be more definite.
daflewis Posted February 11, 2013 Author Posted February 11, 2013 Ok, thanks Sarah, I'll send some PMs and see if I can find them...
adam2180 Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 How would you folks compare the tension to a light guage steel string?
daflewis Posted March 25, 2013 Author Posted March 25, 2013 Hi Adam, Sorry, for the extremely late reply!! - I'd say similar, though it, of course. depends on which particular string.... but they are much thicker.... Cheers, Daf
ChrisF Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 Still looking for those "perfect" strings..... so can I give these a go please Daf ??
