acronym
Ta-da Ibanez SR300 in pearly white Arriving on Friday, its used but I don't mind the photos the seller sent me showed it was well loved. Now can anyone throw me any guides on strings, how to string it up since I haven't done anything like except for a guitar years ago. Plus any decent sites with funk, soul bass notation/tab or books?. Thank you, can't wait.

acronym
I'm so happy, never liked playing electric guitar and always wanted to play bass but godamm peer pressure when I was young and into grunge.
LiamPodmore
A book i highly recommend is Bass Guitar For Dummies, it goes over everything you need to get a great start to your bass playing journey. If you came on here asking about what bass to get as your first, i'd have also recommended an Ibanez, brilliant basses in any price range. acronym
Cool absolute music is like a hour away from me, stringing doesn't seem that much different that the guitar:). You guys had me worried it was something more difficult than that, though I haven't strung a guitar for over 5 years.

Silvia Bluejay
The strings simply happen to be a lot thicker and tougher to persuade into a coil at the tuning pegs! Especially the B (on a 5) and E strings, obviously.
charic
It also depended on whether you strung up the guitar right as well

charic
You'd be surprised how many guitarists don't! Although one method a guitarist I worked with meant that he could repair strings... that was odd!

charic
I couldn't get my head around it but basically he was able to tie the string back together but the knot would not cause any issues at all...
acronym
I probably end up coming back here begging for help restringing when the time comes. BottomE
Hi and congratulations. Lifelong journey just started on a "proper" instrument ;-) On Basschat there are some excellent lessons in the Theory and Techniques section. Get some books. You said you are near Absolute Music? Are you another soft southerner like me?

Mornats
I forgot to say congrats on getting your first bass and welcome to the club! I want to mention a "throw yourself into the deep end" joke too but can't work out how to fit it in. Hehe. Anyway, even though you've just started out you could maybe look at recording stuff. Sounds scary at this early stage but only you have to hear the stuff you record and it's a fantastic thing to do for several reasons. It can really help show you where you're getting things right and where you're getting them wrong. If you do something good (and "good" is relative, it just needs to be good for you) you can hear it over and over and share it with people too. It can also help with learning. Many a time I've wanted to record a piece that sounds like something that's in my head so I'll go off and learn how to do it. I couldn't play guitar until I needed some guitars on some of my tracks and what you hear on them is 100% what I'm capable of playing. Anyway, I posted this the other week which may help get you started: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/176553-mini-guide-to-starter-gear-for-recording-cheaply. You won't need everything on here but there's some good free stuff mentioned on there. And anyone on here can help you too if you ever get stuck. Donnyboy
If you've played guitar - just have a bit of a plonk about to get the feel of it - most guitarists I know who try a bass , squicker(?) about too much - just try to get your groove, thang .
acronym
Thanks guys, really want to get my groove on when I get it and make some tracks alongside my MPC. I be plugging this into guitar rig so I think I have some decent stock sounds to play and fiddle with. The only thing I'm worried about is finger walking on the bass since I tried to do this years ago on my friends bass and it was kinda awkward.
