woodyratm Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012
Ah, cool. Tomorrow for me, hopefully!
Aww I need to wait till Monday night! Quote
Doctor J Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 Starting the second listen now, I like this album I must say. It's not the return of 2112 but I've found nothing I feel the need to complain about so far. I feel many repeated listens in my future. Quote
pst62 Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 First listen through. Excellent music, terrible vocal melodies ....It's Rush! Quote
WHUFC BASS Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 (edited)
I listened to a 1974 live recording (Fly By Night era) the other day. You can see why they took off.
Bdooom - tish! I'm here all week ladies and gentlemen ! I still reckon his Rick tone on Tom Sawyer is hard to beat. Edited June 6, 2012 by WHUFC BASS Quote
From a thread on TB .. watch 4:15 - 4:55 He indeed says that Tom Sawyer was the Jazz and that Red Barchetta was Ric. But he also says that he thinks (doesn't seem totally sure) that Limelight was Ric as well. wateroftyne Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 It's been suggested - and I'm inclined to agree - that his memory may be a little hazy. I reckon TS is the J. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlGibhuobrM Quote
jonsmith Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 I think Geddy is a bit mistaken about Limelight in that interview and he seems uncertain (The Camera Eye might be another matter). He's so adamant about Tom Sawyer here though: http://gc.guitarcenter.com/interview/geddylee/ Oddly, for all his banging on about not enough low end from his Rick (I'm guessing he didn't know about the capacitor bypass), it's the attack that really sounds different to my ears. Plenty of bottom end from his Rickenbacker (and everything else) on Exit Stage Left. Quote
Mornats Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 Are you guys getting the CD delivered early as part of being in their fan club/mailing list? Just curious as I'll order one now if they're sending it out early to everyone! Speaking of tone, am I right in thinking that Headlong Flight is played on a jazz? I had someone say it sounded very much like a Rickenbacker but I'm not all that familiar with the Rick sound to say otherwise. It sounds like an excellently played jazz to me. Quote
kevin_lindsay Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 No sign of the disc here either! Saying that, we were told it'd be delivered on Monday 11th. So anything sooner will be an unexpected bonus. Still doesn't stop me from wanting it NOW though!!! Hahaha Quote

jonsmith Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 (edited) My guess would be Jazz - don't think he's played the Steinberger since the start of the Power Windows sessions (where he discovered Wal). My copy of the CD hasn't arrived yet - I have listened to the album by (cough) other means (/cough). Edited June 6, 2012 by jonsmith Quote

Regardless though, its a superb bass tone. Oh well, shows how much I know. I should stick to guitar ! Edited June 6, 2012 by WHUFC BASS Quote

wateroftyne Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Mine hasn't landed yet either. I've had a listen to some of the songs on YouTube, and it seems they haven't rediscovered their ability to write hooky vocal melodies, which is a shame... Quote
wateroftyne Posted June 9, 2012 Posted June 9, 2012 It's heeeereeee..... Lovely package. I hope the record lives up to it... Quote
