Here's a pic of one of the first basses my company (Alpher Instruments) are currently building!

[attachment=109114:bassphoto.JPG]

Just wanted to know what all you good people thought of it :)

Specs are:

Wenge Body
Spalted maple top
American black wood veneer
Quarter sawn maple neck
ebony board
All black hipshot hardware (ultra lites)
Sadowsky pickups and preamp

All feedback welcome :)

Cheers

I like it, a tad worried about neck dive but some good potential there.

I can see it being a shape that would work well with a solid colour rather than fancy woods though. Go for a "classic look", get a pickguard on there, either solid colour or stain and you're on a winner IMHO.

Looking forward to seeing the headstock on this too. Will there be a build diary?

Looks a lovely bit of spalted, reminds me of my old Skjold, which has Walnut core, personally I'd like to see a good strong hi-gloss finish on it & no pickguard B)

interesting! If it were me i would have preferred it without the wenge top but that's me!

Wenge top?

very nice shape. Like the top, but I think its a bit 'busy' in terms of the natural pattern. Perhaps a less complex pattern next time? is there going to be enough support for the neck once it is in?

Does the wenge body make it quite heavy? My Warwick Infinity is Zebrano, and weighs a ton, in spite of being chambered (and quite small-bodied)

Wenge is generally fairly weighty. I prefer a bubinga core and a wenge neck. nomnomnom

I love the look of a grainy bass - I think it would be a waste to hide this behind paint - how about a tan leather "scratchplate" a la early Wals??

here's an update on the bass build!

its a slow process at the moment as we're way too busy with repair work and day jobs but i reckon it'll be finished in a few weeks
