Pete Academy
just read the feature in the new BGM mag on Portico Quartet. Not impressed. Is it me?

ZMech
Same as ET, don't read BGM but their music is great. What's wrong with the article?
jaydentaku
Love them. What is the name of those drums they use?
JimBobTTD
I rather like them when they are doing psychedelic stuff. It's when the saxophone wigs out in free-jazz style that they start to grate. I say listen to them again.
TheGreek
I've got a couple of their albums...lack any sort of drive or groove.. Edited June 2, 2012 by TheGreek
derrenleepoole
Great group. I got their first album on a whim and it's fantastic, intrigued as I was by the hang drum player. They're an interesting group as the band is as much about the sound palette as it is the songs. Playing a hang drum in such a setting is obviously a challenge, as they (hang drums) have limited range in of themselves. So I think the compositions reflect this to some degree. To say though they have no groove or drive is utter drivel IMHO . Sure, the sound is quite soft in places, and a lot of compositions are slow and more ballad-like, but I can think of several compositions that drive along very nicely off several of their albums. This is as good a jazz group as any other, just a bit different sound pallet
Spoombung
Saw them at Bush Hall recently and I was bored to tears. Okay-ish at home when you're house cleaning. Very dull live. They're in the atmospheric/ambient/sparse/vaguely jazz area but I've seen others do it better in the 90's, ie, Tortoise.
