Fender's American Specials - Who's tried them?

There seems to be some bargains to be had this weekend, I've been looking at the American Specials - what are they like?

Can`t comment on how they sound but they don`t look as good a deal as the Highway models they replaced. Only my opinion of course.

Anyway, I would have thought the last thing you need is another Fender

Are they "Special" in the politically correct sense of the word? It looks like they are to me.
