molan Posted June 6, 2012 Author Posted June 6, 2012
I think the puckups are different.
I think you are correct: "The American Standard Jazz Bass is the same sleekly versatile, best-selling instrument it has always been, and it’s now upgraded with Fender Custom Shop ’60s Jazz Bass single-coil pickups" Quote
alstocko Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 Pretty much the same, the new pickups are basically a PR trick. They sound VERY similar... Quote
Alec 'Aleb' Mills Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 And how much have they hiked up the price? Quote
bigsmokebass Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 they're all now loaded with Custom Shop pickups, whatever that means these days BSB Quote
dannybuoy Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 I read on Talkbass a report from someone who tried the 2011 and 2012 Precisions side by side that the newer pickups were more vintage/smooth, less modern/agressive. If true, probably same goes for the Jazz. Quote
leroydiamond Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 Whatever about the pickups I hope the quality of the instruments have improved. I laid my hands on a new fender jazz in 2010 and the finishing on the frets was deplorable. The fret ends were protruding past the edge of the neck making it pretty much impossible to play Quote
gsgbass Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 I had a 2012 Jazz before going back to a Gibson SG Std. $50.00 higher in price. The CS pups, that's about it. The quality however was flawless on it. Quote
