Mornats Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012
You should'nt have worried did you see the tatty old Sandberg that Pinball bought with him Dont know why he bothered
Haha! That Sandburg was my favourite instrument to play that day. But I wonder, did the tattiness help? Quote

Never mind if it made everyone feel superior with there shiny basses thats a good thing The smartest thing about it was the case and I don't have that anymore! Maybe I'll smarten it up with a lick of paint for the next one me-thinks! Quote
Mornats Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 If you happen to get bored of it in the meantime though... I'm only round the corner! Definitely beats all the Fender jazz's I've played which would actually put it at number 1 in all of the basses I've played. Quote
Mornats Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 APA, could you remind me which strings were on one of your fretlesses that I tried? Were they GHS ground wounds? i.e. these: http://www.ghsstrings.com/strings/bass/brite-flats-1 and do you know of anywhere that will sell them cheap? Ta! I want to put some on my Overwater as they were really nice to play (or that could have been your bass, either way I wanna give them a go!) Quote
apa Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012
You know I was just sat here wondering how he did that
AHA!!!! Ive cracked it You do the harmonic then press (Finger it as normal) and slide. Woohh hooowww. And I worked it all out by myself* A *Actually Mrs APA suggested I press and slide when I was demonstrating it to her. I did humour her just to proove it wouldnt work and it............ errrrrr............ did Quote

I got them of ebay: Paul Comerford http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GHS-M3075-Bass-Brite-Flats-4-String-Bass-strings-49-108-/300694949773?pt=UK_Guitar_Accessories&hash=item4602d0cf8d The ones on the 5 string Antiga were Rotosound 77 Jazz Flats Hope that helps A Quote

It almost wasn't mine after the meeting as Captain Rumble bought the case it was in and thought the guitar may be included-nice try! Quote

Captain Rumble Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 All joking aside that UMBO was very nice to play and did its own thing on the jazz tone I just dont get the "lets attack it with a sander" thing but hey eye of the beholder and all that. For me john's blue P was just so lush and I know why Jerry raves about that Hamer
I noticed there weren't any pictures of it-too old and tatty.
Thats cos they was lyin on the floor not only did I neglect to photograph them I also never got round to playing your TM (think thats right) Quote
Captain Rumble Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012
Lovely pics Captain Rumble
Your too kind was intending to take more but I got all overcome, so many great basses so little time Quote
Pinball Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 Lots there to admire, the Blue P hit the spot for me, as did the Leviinson. Your Sandberg was great Captain, the Hamer sounded massive, the Yamaha was nice and the fretless were all were gorgeous, the overwater and your Squire-Ithe list goes on. don't think I played an instrument I didn't like. My only regret is that I didn't get to the corner to try the Fenderbird or Joes basses Quote

oldslapper Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 Well, as a result of playing Tommys Stingray at the bash, I'm a Ray convert. The next day I bought a Ray 5 string fretless. Quote
