BigRedX
More votes for Dingwall and Overwater. I'd also add Gus (if you can find one) and Sei - although because of the completely bespoke nature of Seis if you try one and don't like it that doesn't mean that you won't like the next one you come across. Johngh
That reminds me ......,, I also owned a Warwick streamer 4 fretless And played my friends Warwick streamer stage 1 , six string bass
Chris, I take it the Warwick 6er is the one I ended up owning, it's a cracking bass. I'd also consider a Status S2, I've drove myself mad trying to get the perfect bass and always ended up going back to Status S2's, I love em. I get my Status Empathy 5er next week, it's a cracker, superb sound. I also got a compliment on the tone of my S2 6er on Friday from a fellow basschatter who saw us, I didn't get his name though as the band were waiting for me to start the second set, but if a basschatter compliments on the tone of an S2 it can't be bad can it. I'd also like to try a Dingwall, but I'm very happy with my current basses and can't see me selling any of them

PTB
I like the look of the roscoe bass guitars. I really enjoyed Gwilym's sadowsky , how does the M5 differ ?
The M5 has soapbars & 24 frets. Take a look on line. I think you'd like it. alstocko
Lakland DJ5 or JO5
+1 to the JO5 Both versions are amazing! A 35' with the best B I've ever heard (yet to try dingos) and sounds just like a jazz should (much better than the fenders at their own game in my opinion!) Happy hunting, quack bang and all that... Japhet
I was looking for something to back up my MM Stingray 4 and wanted something affordable which did something different to the 4. I picked up a Lakland Skyline 5 string for £400. At the same time my beloved Stingray developed some problems with the input jack so I started using the Lakland straight away and as of now, some 4 months later, I'm still using it and haven't repaired the MM either. Great sounding bass and easy to play too.
visog
Oooooh something different ,.......... Controversial
Not sure it's that controversial... If I'd said a Rickenbacker 5 or a Gibson 5 maybe. Bernie does a great 'B' on his 35" scale basses even if he's perhaps better known for his 4-string 'slap machines'. Chris Horton
Chris, Another bass?! Knowing a little of your taste in basses, how about Roscoe, Ken Smith, Bossa and Overwater ? I think you should also try a Sadowsky M5, quite different from Gwilym's Jazz-inspired one you played recently. Of course, once your MTD lands, you may just want another!
Just a quick update.............I have recently got hold of a Sadowsky 5 NYC m24 and i love it !!!! Thanks for the recommendatin Paul , great suggestion
CHRISDABASS
A big part of a bass having a good B string is actually down to string choice! Of course you need a well constructed instrument but i've found that finding the right string for that particular bass is crucial! The B on my sadowsky is good with Sadowsky strings but is AWESOME with DR strings!

JTUK
Sei J5 or if you wanted keep the price down, a proper Overwater J5. If SH, I've seen Sei's for £1200 USB which is silly money for such quality. One of the very few 5ers I'd buy on spec and unheard, which is almost a golden rule for me...

Gust0o
Does your SR5 not cut it? I'll admit to having cast some admiring glances at it - sadly, I'll not be in buying mood this side of work restructuring. I had an MTD 5'er, and found it to be superb - albeit one of their cheaper models. I'd definitely suggest that brand for some further investigation.
