Japhet
I'm not a fan of the band or the music, but I always think of Richie Sambora's solo on Bon Jovi's Keep the Faith as the 'perfect' solo for the song. Just a very well crafted piece of music IMO. Solo starts at about 3.00. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZQyVUTcpM4 For sheer brilliance I'd go for Stevie Ray Vaughan; Riviera Paradise. I will NEVER get tired of hearing this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gVoDVyMY3m4
FinnDave
Oh good call on AL. I remember seeing that documentary about Rockpile that that clip is taken from and doing the whole dropped jaw thing that Edmunds, Lowe, Lynott and Huey Lewis are doing. A truly original voice back then, copied a fair bit since, but never equalled. Another original voice on guitar, and one that I've not heard anyone copy, is Richard Thompson. A guy who really pushes the envelope in note choices, but who just makes it work.
I was in the audience when Richard Thompson recorded for Radio 1 'In Concert' in 1981/2. Took me a few minutes to work out where the extra guitar was coming from, then spotted a familiar frizzy-haired tele player hiding at the back. Yup, Albert Lee and Richard Thompson on stage together in front of about 200 people.
the_skezz
A lot of Brian May's solos - not always the most exciting things but I struggle to think of a Queen song where the solo hasn't contributed and felt like an essential part of the song. Particularly Killer Queen and Crazy Little Thing Called Love.
Lynottfan
My fave Lizzy solos, being a bit of fan, I will take one from each of their guitarists. Eric Bell, The Rocker. Scott Gorham Dancing in the moonlight. Brian Robertson Dont believe a word. Gary Moore Toughest Street in town. Snowy White Killer on the loose. John Sykes Sun goes down. timmo
From about 3.30 to 8 mins.Hard to choose a favourite for me as it could have been virtually any song from Alvin Lee.
Kyuss, to me, is perfect rock music My favourite guitar solo is John Frusciante's in Dani California. That tone!!

Wilson_51_
I would have to put a Big +1 for Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb, preferably the live version off of Pulse, it just has so much emotion to it!
