MandShef Posted June 19, 2012 Posted June 19, 2012 Hi guys I'm a classical double bass player based in Sheffield. I play with Sheffield Philharmonic Orchestra. I'm trying to improve my performance standard with the aim of getting into teaching. Look forward to chatting/swapping info/sharing tips with other bassists here. Quote
Silvia Bluejay Posted June 19, 2012 Posted June 19, 2012 Welcome, Mandy! You've come to the right place Quote
BassTractor Posted June 19, 2012 Posted June 19, 2012 Hi MandShef, Welcome to BC. You'll find this a friendly, knowledgeable place. I'm a classical player too, but have joined the dark side because of the cookies. You want some cookies too? Enjoy the site! Quote
geoffbassist Posted June 19, 2012 Posted June 19, 2012 Welcome. Its always good to have some more double bassists on the forum. Cheers Geoff Quote

Telebass Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 (edited) Welcome! I really MUST get a double bass before I'm too old to stand one up... Edited June 20, 2012 by Telebass Quote
debwilliams Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 Hi Mandy and welcome from a "used to play" double bass and recent convert to sideways bass . Enjoy ! Quote
andydye Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 (edited) Welcome MandShef! Nice to have another Sheffield-er on here too! I envy your DB skills (recent convert to upright things but nowhere near classical abilities - I pootle along with shuffle/blues/folk type stuff) Edited June 25, 2012 by andydye Quote
MandShef Posted June 25, 2012 Author Posted June 25, 2012 Andy, I reckon each style has it's strengths & weaknesses. I envy you shuffle/blues/folk players ability to improvise - I'm fine with sheet music in front of me, but get way out of my comfort zone if asked to play along to something with no music to prompt me! Reckon we can learn from each other Quote
andydye Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012
Reckon we can learn from each other
...and that, is the spirit of Basschat! Quote

Evil Undead Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012
sideways bass
I love that. Quote
Silvia Bluejay Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 We should add "upside down bass" to the list, then. (As in, lefty bass player picking up a bass guitar that's not suitable...) Quote
