stingrayPete1977
So whats the deal here then? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Musicman-Stingray-bass-HYBRID-/170863064867?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item27c83b7723 I dont think thats an EBMM neck, the bottom area around the truss rod wheel is the wrong shape as its much to round rather than flat behind the wheel of fortune also the heel is round rather than coming to a sort of V shape. check out this one for an idea of what I mean http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Music-Man-Stingray-3EQ-Bass-Guitar-Humbucker-Black-Pearl-/290602880263?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item43a9480d07 What would it be then an OLP neck (?calling mcnach ) with a decal and a few bits and bobs for £500? Sorry if its a member here but I have serious doubts about that neck if it was purchased at full whack price
4 Strings
To be fair he doesn't say its a MM neck but one he reshaped and put a transfer on. (Whether he really reshaped or it was just the wrong shape to start with, who knows) Seems the only thing from the MM factory are the tuners. No reason why it couldn't be a nice playing and sounding bass, certainly looks funky. Rather optimistic with the start price as its really not actually worth anything, unfortunately for him, as its a collection of aftermarket parts but with an expensive shape. Could get a nice Sterling for that money.
Rayman
Someone from my home town, maybe I'll go and have a look at it.
Count Bassy
I think he's been perfectly straight and honest about what it is, so I can't see a problem - except what seems a high starting price.

stingrayPete1977
I need to read it again as it read to me that it was already a genuine neck that had some damage so was repaired by reshaping then a new logo put on rather than it being a copy neck? That's not genuine at all and worse than just being had himself.

4 Strings
Yes, he does, and it isn't. Still, with that starting price the world is safe from anyone making a fool of themselves.
Like I said to 4 strings I have re read it and he is not being straight at all, I was correct the first time I read it although you pair had me doubting myself! He says it was damaged so reshaped it a bit to lose the damaged area and you cant tell when comparing it to a real one I thinks thats where the confusion comes in if you read it quickly. That for me makes it worse than just saying it came like that and its genuine other than the fake sticker, I would still pull it up as fake but the cock and bull story just makes him the perp rather than an innocent party IMO. SlapbassSteve
Would be a nice bass for about £100, dodgy neck and all. £400 though?
stingrayPete1977
Is it £400 now? it was £500!
stingrayPete1977
Just looked and he has dropped it £100, also why would you change all 4 tuners when putting a Hipshot one on?

stingrayPete1977
He has messaged me back and comes across as a nice guy, I asked if it has the decal on the back and he says it does? He says he bought it as a damaged original neck with varnish all over the front so had that sanded off. He also says its a four bolt neck so I'm thinking when the wheel of fortune came in but only four bolt? I will get him to add a picture of this rear logo but I feel it's going to be about as genuine as the front one!
4 Strings
Maybe positioned a little better. Also, I may be wrong in my limited experience in this, but the amount of grain showing on the neck wood is more than usual for a MM neck (and older Fender necks for that matter) which is normally more homogeneous
stingrayPete1977
Just had a double check and as I thought 4 bolt necks never had a truss wheel and 6 bolt necks never had a truss rod, case closed then as he has confirmed it as always being a 4 bolt with no evidence of the 6 bolts holes. I wonder what it has come from then, just some korean copy then? My money is on that neck being fitted to that copy body from day one. 4 Strings
You're probably right as the pocket would need to be the same rounded shape or the intonation would be a problem (saddles right on the ends of the screws assuming the curve makes the neck a fraction longer). Certainly the scratch plate isn't sympathetic
stingrayPete1977
In fairness the guy has thanked me for my knowledge and says he is going to pull the listing, so maybe he had his trousers pulled down in the first place?
