Jeverson28 Posted June 19, 2012 Posted June 19, 2012 HELP! If I set my main bass (Ibanez SR520) up to how Ibanez recommend it to be set up I get MASSIVE fret buzz on the first couple of frets. It's so bad that the note I play can barely be heard or will last a very short amount of time. Does anyone have any ideas why it's so bad? Even professional set-ups haven't sorted the problem out... Dandelion Posted June 19, 2012 Posted June 19, 2012 If the buzz occurs on the first few frets then perhaps you need to relax the truss rod. OR use a ruler to see if the frets are level. Quote
LukeFRC Posted June 19, 2012 Posted June 19, 2012 as in the headstock end? has someone cut the nut really low? Quote
LukeFRC Posted June 19, 2012 Posted June 19, 2012 edit... yes dandelion is right, check truss rod first. Quote
Jeverson28 Posted June 19, 2012 Author Posted June 19, 2012 The truss rod seems to be ok. I have a normal amount of relief (by normal I mean the same as my other basses have and how Ibanez recommend). I'll check the frets now... Quote
Jeverson28 Posted June 19, 2012 Author Posted June 19, 2012 My bass teacher tells me the nut is actually a little high lol Quote
rogerds Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 i'm with dandelion... presumably - as your teacher says the nut is too high - there is no buzz with open strings ?? not sure about your 'professional' set up then Quote
Jeverson28 Posted June 20, 2012 Author Posted June 20, 2012 Yep, no open string buzz, just first and second fret. I've since set it up myself and got it better than it was but for some reason I still can't get it quite how I want. Ah well, I'll just keep fiddling till I get it close to how I want it Thanks for the help guys! Quote
