SPHDS
Cheers, again Phil! The matching idea did seem a bit of a.....hassle.....but hey ho, new mic time! Ah ok, re. polar patterns, we don't actually have any monitors.......just vocals and kick into desk and PA speakers. I am keeping an eye on a couple of mics (Senny, AKG, Shure) on Ebay, seeing what they go for, and see if I can pick up a bargain, if not may just plump for a XM or Samson......! Bassman Steve
I have nothing to add on mic choice but I will say one thing - get a good cable. Your great mic hasn't a chance if your cable is a cheapie.
SPHDS
Fair point Steve! So.....what is a good cable? (bearing in mind I want something good value and reliable rather than something 'Gold Plated and Diamond Encrusted') but would also like to avoid something made old Coke cans and tin foil.....! dannyt144
I bought a rip off sm58 from studio spares it sells for about £40 quid. I was lucky however they've got a few ex display 1s at present. Ended up with stand xlr and mic (inc cases) for 35 quid!! Took it to a gig not expecting much but it was great. I was getting less feed back than my singers sm58 beta (slightly better I think than a sm58). Although it was quite trebly but a bit of eq n reverb did just the job

[/quote] A good cable is one that's durable and well screened. It'd have to be seriously sh*tty to make any difference to the sound, unlike instrument cables where the high impedance of (passive) instruments make it necessary to keep capacitance low. Obbn, forum member, knows how to make a good cable and won't attempt to sell you snake oil, diamonds or coke cans.
