HarryPotter Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 OK, so the boys at SC have 2 years 0% APR on this week, and it's just too good an offer not to look into. What rig, up to say £600 would you pick from their range? I'm a precision kind of guy and like the Classic British Tone kind of thing. I'd also like it to be (one fat) man portable please. TIA Quote
justgone Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 I've just purchased a Peavey Tour 700 head from them at Salford, but on the 12 mths interest free. Great amp! As for cabs, i'm sure you'll find someat there you'll fancy!! Does that help?? Jg Quote

xgsjx Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 My advice is if they are anything like they are in Glasgow or Dundee for service, go elsewhere. I've been to the Jamaica street store in Glasgow & the Dundee store quite a few times with every intention of making a purchase & each time walked out empty handed due to the staff being totally uninterested, uninformative & just plain ignorant. SC was good in the 90's too. Quote

budget bassist Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 (edited) Nothing, last time i bought an amp from them it took 3 weeks to get here, safe to say i'm not buying from them again apart from the odd accessory. (would probably be an ashdown stack though, i'm fed up of combos) Edited April 23, 2008 by budget bassist Quote

I have always found the bass guy in the Glasgow branch to be very friendly and helpful. Quote
bass_ferret Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 Getting back on topic, try what they got and buy the one you like best. If you cant get to try and are buying blind online then I for one am not prepared to tell you what to buy - you might not like it. Quote
Rich Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 No bias from me either... get anything BUT Ashdown Seriously though, BF is right. Try everything they've got in your price range. If you've got to buy online, try to get to a branch first for a try-out. Don't buy blind, it might end in tears. Quote
Hutton Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 I would also have to speak up for both branches in Glasgow. The lads have always given me good service. My main gripe is that their range of stock just isn't what it used to be. When I am ready to make a purchase I go to see what they have and am usually disappointed. I suspect that they have shifted the emphasis from one type of customer to another. It is some considerable time since I bought anything in Sound Control and I used to buy a lot from them. Quote

andy67 Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 the b series ampeg gear is pretty good especially th b410hlf. Quote
HarryPotter Posted April 24, 2008 Author Posted April 24, 2008 I must admit fellas the Ashdowns do lok the bo!!ox to me but I am pretty sure that Ampeg seem to typify the tone that I carry around in my head. And yes, I do intend to try before I buy, just a shame the local SC has so little bass stock in. Thanks for the replies (I'm still tempted by a portable head and to build my own cabinets). Quote
