Twigman
Since Spotify added links to buy the music our record Co has at last allowed our stuff onto Spotify. Bizarrely we seem to have 2 listings with different albums in each listing. I am curious as to how the 'Artist Radio' selects which artists are played to the listener. This afternoon I have been testing this by playing Sad Lovers & Giants Artist Radio to see who Spotify line up. So far I've heard Danse Society /Red Lorry Yellow Lorry/ Section25/ MyDad is Dead / Eleven Pond / The Names These are not normally bands that we or our fans associate with our sound. How does Spotify decide what to stream? I always thought that it would be bands from the same genre with a similar sound. Which bands play when you listen to your own 'Artist Radio' ? Bilbo
The same way Amazon chooses what to recommend. It makes links using technology rather than people so assumes that everyone who buys A and B will like C D and E, even though purchase A was for your Mum and B for your 8 year old daughter. It follows searches other people do and links words rather than tunes so, if you put in jazz, you get Johnny Hates Jazz and so on. Garbage in, garbage out as the old computer nerds used to say.
