jeed
Apologies if already posted... Good little interview thing from the Quietus http://thequietus.com/articles/09210-rush-geddy-lee-interview-favourite-albums
KevB
I have nearly all of those 13 albums. This is, of course, where any remote similarities between me and the gedster well and truly ends, as anyone who has heard me play knows. andydye
I have some and have never considered buying others, I'll try to listen to some of the ones I haven't got...out of interest. paul_5
I've only got 4 of them. The Bjork is a belter though.
Twigman
I have 6 of them. Can't stand Rush though.

BigRedX
I also have a surprising number of those albums considering my interest in Rush started when I saw the gear-porn that is the sleeve to "All The World's a Stage" in the new release section of my local record shop and ended two weeks later when I class-mate leant me his copy of "2112"... Kiwi
May see if I can find a copy of the Bjork album just to provide a change from the dance stuff I normally listen to. I really liked his comment about her imagination - that is probably what characterises the good from the bad in music for me.

bartelby
I've got 5. Björk being one of them. Björk creates much more interesting music than Rush.
pst62
Excellent read, got 7 of them! Was quite surprised at seeing Fleet Foxes, Bjork & Radiohead in there. Note to self, must have a listen to some Jefferson Airplane, but Jethro Tull can stay in the shops!

BassTractor
Have got almost all of them, but not the Jefferson Airplane and the Pink Floyd. Do have others by the same bands though. Don't have any Rush, btw. Have never connected. I was pleasantly surprised he'd list Björk and Radiohead, and surprised he listed Fleet Foxes (but I do have that album, and like it a lot). gelfin
I have all of them. Interestingly Geddy was, is on Radio 2 , Ken Bruce doing tracks of his years this week. Edited July 5, 2012 by gelfin
lurksalot
I had a chuckle on Tuesday when he said that he liked Fleet Foxes , he said they weren't overtly commercial, now, correct me if I am wrong , and I can't find a reference , but I remember seeing an episode of Dragons den where a band effectively sold a share of itself to peter jones . was that band not the fleet foxes ? Bilbo
The Who - Who's Next - never heard it Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin - heard some but not all of it Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes - never heard it Genesis - Nursery Cryme - I think I have heard it but can't be absolutely sure Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick - never heard it Cream - Disraeli Gears - never heard it Pink Floyd - Meddle - never heard it Joni Mitchell - Blue - I OWN ONE!!! Jefferson Airplane - Bless Its Pointed Little Head (Live) - never heard it Jimi Hendrix Experience - Are You Experienced? - heard 4 tracks off it (all the hits) - never really got into Hendrix Bjork - Post - never heard it Yes - The Yes Album - I used to own it and it is a great album!! Radiohead - OK Computer - never heard it What was I doing all that time? It's nice to hear these things and I think if I could get Spotify in work I would try but, when I am at home, I just look for other things. I like a lot of Rush but I think its nostalgia not aesthetics!!
paul_5
Start with the Bjork album - track 4 is an old jazz number from the '40s - that should break you in gently.
martthebass
Led Zep 1 eh? No surprises there then.....the first Rush album is 'Led Zep 1 the reprise'
Conan
I have seven of the thirteen - which surprises me slightly. A pretty eclectic selection there, allowing for some rather obvious choices! Shame the recent Rush offerings (i.e. after 1993!!) can't replicate some of the masterful songwriting exhibited on some of those thirteen albums... From what I can see here, you're mainstream music education is Joni Mitchell and Yes which actually is a pretty great start. To your point, skip nostalgia and go for the Radiohead and Bjork where you'll hear incredible music. I'd go with Geddy's recommendation on 'OK Computer' but sub 'Vespertine' for 'Post'. Note: this is a music recommendation not a bass recommendation. Interestingly, on a Gary Husband's tour a couple of years ago, in his evocations series he did John McLaughlin and also Bjork! Cosmo Valdemar
I would cheerfully consider 5 of these to be among my own personal favourites. That man got good taste. Purely from that list, and Geddy's comments, I decided to take a plunge into the unknown and ordered that Fleet Foxes album. Can't go wrong for 95p on Amazon!
