bigsmokebass
Hey guys, Managed to trade my MM SR5 with Gus's (Gust0o) Gibson Grabber and what a beauty this bass is. For a 1976/77 bass this is in immaculate condition and supplied with origional case and case candy. It has a few of the the smallest of dinks ive seen and slight defects in the finish: which i presume is from the temperature exapnding/contracting the wood over the years but nothing i'd really complain about, all in all i'm totally amazed. The neck is superb, nothing like my other Gibsons. nice to have a rock bass with a lot of bite and growl from the maple frets and the ( Kent Armstrong, i believe) pickup configuration supplying a fair bit of power and an array of tones for a vintage passive bass. Altogether i love this bass, which i haven't long put down and really pleased Gus made the effort to could come drop it off, stay for a cuppa tea and talk some low end for a while. a top gentleman if i say so myself(Y) Pictures i'll upload tomorrow on here and the Gibson Porn thread, so watch this space. Regards, BSB

ash
I have a 70s Grabber 1 - with the sliding pickup - this is the only bass I feel 100% confident with for recording, it sits great in the mix and engineers love it even more than my Precision. I've stopped gigging with it now because I'm frightened that it could get knocked or even nicked! Welcome to the Grabber club BSB.

MarkG3
That G3 just screams coolness, does it really play and sound as cool as it looks? Is it heavy etc I had one of the update epiphone rippers with the p/j pups but don't get on with it, how's the g3 sound with flat eq?
It's the leader of my pack, the neck is just real cool, not too think like the Tbird, Not a BASSball bat like the LP. just smooth and not sticky as Gibson necks can get but i think that could be from being played and worn down over the years. I've never tried it but i'd say the Epi Ripper, although i came close to purchasing one, could be as close to it as damn it but obv missing the "Gibson Quality" build and sound. If your ever in my area, your very much welcome to come and noodle on it BSB
haha, thanks Cocco. was my fave bass till about 2 days ago but for a good reason nice to own a heady bass too, although not the heaviest ive played, it sustains for ever with the chambered but solid body and thick neck Hows your Grabber? be awesome to see a pic (Y) BSB
cocco
Mines a slider and again it's an incredible piece of kit. It's a bit of a one trick pony but the one trick it does is pretty empressive so you forgive it. It is my weapon of choice for recording and will be for gigging again once I get it's tuners stabilised. I think it's had a fairly hard life though, I imported it from the states a couple of years ago and it has been played within an inch of its life since. I'll post a pic when photo bucket starts working again. Tell me more about the LP bass. I think I want one.
I think i would like to try and own a slider, sort of like the J&P basses of the Grabbers How does it sound for a "one trick pony" ? The les Paul, sound wise is quite Mid- driven but still open to more lows and highs depending on which way you point the toggle and play with the knobs (Vol/Vol/Tone/Tone). Although, i pretty much have mine centered with knocking the EQ on my amp only a little to get 'my rock sound' but im sure more technical players than me can work it better for different genres but being a man of rock, you cant go wrong with this bass. The bass is heavy and thick due to the oversized body not too heavy when your using a nice thick strap but when you have it on your lap, you can feel it but it stays in one place- i do find the G3 being light, wider and thin it slides about. Bare in mind, this is the older model with the "Warwick styled" bridge, so the newer ones could be a lot lighter but i don't find this being a fault as if it was lighter, i'd just recommend the Epi Jack Cassady bass. The neck is pretty meaty, along the lines of a Pbass but i think it may be a bit too glossy for some peoples taste as it can get sticky time to time but its no problem if you keep your guitars in check and use Ernie Ball Wonder Wipes. I cant think of anything at the moment but if theres anything you'd like to know just ask and ill either find out for you or your very much welcome to come and give it a whirl. cocco
I want one big time! The slider has a really serious rock tone. Being made entirely of maple it has bags of harmonic warmth, bite and growl. Sort of like a P only better in every way in my opinion. Here's a pic of mine next to my old jazz. The neck is pretty big, weight is good. Not too heavy but by no means light. It's the only Gibson bass I've ever owned or played so I don't really have a lot of comparison. The pickup in the slider is a master piece IMO, they are also in the explorer bass so I'd love to get my hands on one of those too. If you weren't so far away I'd come have a go in a heart beat. cocco
I butchered and sold that jazz unfortunately. I think the grabber is a keeper though. I spent a long time looking for it and a lot of cash importing it. The jazz is one I should never have sold though. I'm game for a two man bass bash though. I'll send you a message now.
