cloudburst
Just wondering if anyone has any up-to-date recommendations re gig-bags. The Fender 'deluxe' bags I have are not great at all. I did read the sticky which seemed to recommend Ritter - just wondering if that still holds true nowadays. Ta, CB
LukeFRC
the higher end warwick ones have done me for years
Lozz196
Agree, the Warwick RB20605 B is a great gig-bag, very padded, lots of decent compartments, quality. New is about £55.
Truckstop
The Protec Contego, the Mono cases and the iGiG bags are probably the best (or rather theey're the ones that cost the most and name artists use them). As soon as I get a few quid together I'm grabbing a double! Truckstop
BigRedX
There's a wide variety of items from those which are essentially guitar-shaped sacks with handles to ones that are virtually hard cases you can wear on your back. The right one for you depends on what you need the case to do. What is important? Protection, weight (or lack of it), drability, room to carry other gear, are you going to need something that is comfortable to wear while walking several miles, does it need to be small enough not to take up too much room on public transport? The new semi-rigid cases like those from Mono, iGig etc are fantastic cases, but they're not always the best case for every situation. I currently own a Mono case but there are times when the Ritter that it replaced would be more suitable.
jaydentaku
I have used Warwick hard cases for a while, they aren't that tough. I currently use this.... http://www.gear4music.com/Woodwind-Brass-Strings/Bass-Guitar-foam-Case-by-Gear4music/C87 Its cheap, but surprisingly good at what its suppose to do. The foam is tough and it protects my base. It has backpack handles and a small compartment inside
Norris
A bass I bought some time ago arrived in a battered old "Original Gig Bag Company" case - it's great. Decent padding, lots of pockets, grab handles and shoulder straps. I think they still make them.

Torben Hedstrøm
Best gig bag I ever had was the Tribal Planet 'top of the line'... Anyone knows if they still exist at all ?, I would really really like another one .
cloudburst
Many thanks for the replies folks. In response to BigRedX who makes a valid point - I use the gig bag as follows: - 10 min walk from home to train (on my back) - 10 min train journey - 10 min walk from train to recording studio and - in the boot of my Mini So I'm looking for a case that is: - soft - light - has room for a cable, one pedal and some odds and ends - I travel fairly light - well padded (Fender deluxe gig bag is not well padded - especially at the heel) - comfortable to wear (Fender gig bag is very uncomfortable) - not too bulky (Fender gig bag is shaped to be easily manufactured and is too bulky and unfitted and generic) - good quality (This is the Fender case's worse area. The 'deluxe' gig bag feels very cheap and very very nasty) Will take a look at some of the brands you guys have mentioned. CB
BigRedX
In that case I'd be looking at the top of the range Ritter or something along those lines. The semi-rigid cases like the Mono, iGig and Protec are great cases but they are bulky and heavy when compared with the traditional gig bag. The Mono is the lightest of these but it's not much smaller or lighter than a Hiscox Liteflight. Also IMO it's not as comfortable to wear for long periods as the Ritter. cloudburst
OK - thanks for that. Had started to look at the Mono M80 and the new Mono Vertigo. The Ritter RG8000 looks pretty good. Thanks for your help - much appreciated. CB
lozbass
You could have a look at the Fusion F1 too - about £120 new. Lighter than a Mono (I think) with a more rigid feel - also significantly shorter than a Mono - a J only just fits! They're fairly comfortable to wear, especially when using both back-straps. Good sized pockets. Also, I posted a review of Mono, iGiG and Protec Contego somewhere recently, it may be worth digging around
goblin
I've got a leather Warwick bag. Really can't fault it. It makes my other Warwick Premium line look and feel cheap!
krysh
I bought one of these slightly used for a decent amount less than original and what the ads say is right. they are the best regarding the portability and durability as a bag plus they have a thick padding with protector on the back side. there are others that have more storage and might protect better (I wouldn't throw mine out of the window with a bass in it). But if I had to buy another gigbag, I'd go for one of these again. expensive but great long lasting quality worth every cent, and sometimes used available for a good price. Dave Vader
I have a Ritter, it fits in all my crap (leads, spare leads, tuners, emergency toolkits and stuff, oh and i got my coat in it last month as well). Is not too uncomfortable on your back, and seems to be okay. It gets a proper comfort test every other month or so when I gig in that there london, as I go and stay with my friend in Stanmore, and tube it into Camden for the day (around 10:30) spend the day being dragged around the market by the missus with the bass on my back and then head off for soundchecks etc. about 6ish. (would be about a 2 hour round trip to go back and get the bass from my friend's house). It doesn't hurt as much as it should do
jazzyvee
I'm looking for one at the moment to hold two long scale basses. Reunion blues one I bought was too short to fit my bass so i sent it back and now looking at a Harvest, leather or leather and canvas gig bag. Has anyone got any experience with these bags. Johnnyc
I just bought a Mono M-80 and its the best gig bag I've ever seen or owned. They do a double version which you could check out, not had any experience with Harvest ones though. Johnny

Wonderful gig bag, really protective, light, just enough storage space. Enough room to fit a hand towel behind the neck inside the case to, but if they'd only spent a bit more time designing the shoulder straps, for long walk carrying they're just too narrow at the top. dan

But great for the times when I don't need a flight case. Agreed about he price..... Expensive.

Ian Savage
Quick mini thread-necro, anyone got experience of the 20-odd quid Thomann gigbags? http://www.thomann.de/gb/thomann_premium_gigbag_e_bass_br.htm http://www.thomann.de/gb/thomann_elite_gigbag_ebass.htm After something I can use to lug bass in and out of town by bike and public transport on occasion, with a few cables and a mic in pockets; nothing flash, I guess, but needs to be durable and comfortable (and needs to fit a reasonably long 5-string; having to replace the Warwick Rockbag I've had for years as it's too long for it).
