Two numbers that slayed me in my youth.

I loved this when it came out, and I still do. It's a beautifully written song, and the bassline is clever and just what the song needed. Check out the RUSH instrumentation :)

Memories......Davie Paton, from Pilot, is still doing his thing up here in Edinburgh and I fell in love with ONJ after hearing Sam as a nipper.

Edit - and here he is showing that the bass wasn't just for show, he can really play it.

The first songs I remember hearing are:

TVC15-David Bowie
Cars- Gary Numan (We had that Cool Cuts CD you got free with Carling)
Wonderwall-Oasis
Changing Man-Paul Weller
A Girl Like You- Edwyn Collins
Alright-Supergrass

Probably soaked in subconsciously from my dad's car radio and tape player, except for Gary Numan which I used to repeat over and over, great memories!

Edit: I also remember my mum always playing the Beautiful South

That Pilot track is still a fave of mine.

This track for me, I was at Music Collage and had to take it down [It got in the way of drinking, and took me ages]
And it also hit me that there was more to Disco than four to the floor and Pee souping.

Another one for playing/arranging and harmony that I loved.

I tried to get my band to cover a Pilot track - they just laughed. Never mind that the song is brilliantly written, has some nice playing and was a huge hit in the days that you had to sell millions to get a number 1

Heres my memories:

One of my first memories was playing a pile of old china like 78's that belonged to my Mum on a (Decca?) mono player.

I must have been about 6 maybe 7, around '73/'74. Without a doubt this was what started it all for me.

I'm now back in our old kitchen watching the record spin on the deck.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you 'Freight Train' by The Chas McDevitt Skiffle Orchestra featuring Nancy Whiskey..

Hearing this one always reminds me of unwrapping my copy of Reggatta De Blanc LP on my 6th birthday in 1979 and my old man putting it on the record player for me. I've still got it stored with my other vinyls.

Another song from around that time, which saw a lot of play in ours - I remember my old man putting Discovery on when he and I came back from the hospital after the birth of my brother that year. We got our tea from the chippy, a bottle of lemonade and some sweets and listened to this while we ate - the things a song reminds you of!
