Horizontalste Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 (edited) I hadn't noticed until it was recently pointed out, but when I sit with a bass aimlessly noodling I always seem to play in A or E. Must try harder Does anyone else have a Default? Edited July 2, 2012 by Horizontalste Quote
Ben Jamin Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 (edited) I'm guilty of the default E too. It's knowing you can always bring it down to a big fat open E root note. ...even though I play a 5-string now which goes down to B? Edited July 2, 2012 by Ben Jamin Quote

ezbass Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 Unless I'm playing a specific tune I tend to walk around in G. Quote
BILL POSTERS Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 Played in a lot of Blues bands, so I guess it should be A or D. But it aint, its almost always walking around C. I wonder what influences these choices. Whether its down to habit from early stuff you learn, pitch of your voice something that resonates in yer brain, or something more mexhanical, like fret spacing, or the angle of your elbow.. Quote

[/quote] usually whatever listen to at time or whatever is stuck in my tiny brain - fret spacing not a significant factor as have a 35 incher and a 34 incher so that is like almost a whole fret/semitone displacement anyways - but i would speculate that the least noodled key is probably F maj Quote
Fat Rich Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 I play so many bum notes it's difficult to tell what key I'm in. Quote
BigRedX Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 I tend to deliberately choose different keys when I'm writing. It keeps things interesting and stops the other musicians from falling into comfortable patterns. Right now I'm favouring F# and B. Quote
Jono Bolton Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 I tend to mess about in B when I'm not playing a specific song Quote
Lozz196 Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 E, G, or A - they`re all on the thick string. Apt really Quote
spike Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 D for me, just seems to be where my left hand feels most comfortable. Quote
davey_one_visits Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 I used to play A minor all the time. I write a different key at the start of each week in my diary to make me play in other keys. It has got me out of just A minor. Quote
