waynepunkdude Posted July 11, 2012 Author Posted July 11, 2012 Yep will be here soon. It's by no means finished off but here's a preview. Quote
gemdids Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Looking good I'd be tempted to drop a hotrail pup in there but as you said, maybe not worth spending too much on it. Quote
waynepunkdude Posted July 11, 2012 Author Posted July 11, 2012 Indeed, it's one those you have to be careful with, if you spend too much it makes the wholes thing pointless. I have spend a total of about £80 including the cost of the bass which I think I'd get back if I sold it. Quote
NancyJohnson Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Jeepers Wayne, you're quicker than a virgin in a whorehouse. P Quote
bremen Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 I have a bass body that I believe was once yours Wayne - a Precision routed for an extra MM pickup. Bright yellow. Was it you that painted it? Immaculate job, respect. It now has a Japanese Precision neck (was once Chris Beedster's) and SD pickups and is loverley. Quote
waynepunkdude Posted July 12, 2012 Author Posted July 12, 2012 Could well be mate, I have done a few yellows, in fact I'm in the middle of one now. Quote
Grassie Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Can you tell me more about the priming/topcoat? How many coats of primer do you use? What grade of sandpaper do you use? How many topcoats? What type of paint? Sorry for all the questions, but there is an Aria jazz in my local cash converter and I fancy having a go at a re-fin meself... Quote

TPJ Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Hi Wayne, I did something very similar to a bronco. Consider replacing that pickup. I bought a £15 Artec hotrail off ebay for mine and it helped the tone immeasurably. There are also other pup alternatives that fit. That stock strat pup is rubbish. I also added a cheap £10 high bass bridge. Quote

I will give a break down on what I used and what have you when I get home. Quote
SlapbassSteve Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 All this is making me want a Bronco to mod! Is the pickup literally just the same size as a strat pickup? Quote
Yes, so far as I know the original Bronco's pickup was a strat pickup but with the solid cover to hide the oddity of having 6 poles for 4 strings. I've got a Bronco I picked up for sixty quid on fleabay, mint condition. Cheap as chips!!! Quote
waynepunkdude Posted July 12, 2012 Author Posted July 12, 2012 Done a bit more tonight, need to straighten out the scratchplate, put on the black blocks and the decal. Quote

EBS_freak Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 (edited) When you say that you can't do the binding... were you going to paint it on a la Lakland Skyline method? Edited July 13, 2012 by EBS_freak Quote
waynepunkdude Posted July 13, 2012 Author Posted July 13, 2012 I bought some proper binding, would have meant routing a slot on both sides of the fingerboard and as I said before you have to keep the fact it is a cheap bass and you have to make rational decisions. Quote
tommorichards Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 If you are after a hot rail style pickup, ive got one you could have for a few bob (its the cream one) Quote
EdwardHimself Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 I'm tempted by that musicman pickup; probably shouldn't be spending any more money though... Quote
