SpaceChick
It's all in your imagination, everyone knows a bass doesnt have fifteen frets.
My bad... I'll keep taking the pills
lojo

Gigged that a few times last year, with the bass breakdown in the middle from the original , great song to play
pobrien_ie
The late great Duck Dunn also made some nice use of root / octaves towards the end of the Blues Brothers' take on Jailhouse Rock. Check it out - very tasty!
Telebass
I use root-octave doublle stops all the time in a three-piece, to help fill up the space during guitar solos...
KevB
If someone's resurrected this thread I'll just slip this one in as I forgot originally - about 20s in on this, simple but effective : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DBVIzjZlYRg
Judo Chop
There are some nice ocatves in 'Paranoid' that I am struggling to get up to speed. The band I've just joined does a cover of this so I'm gonna have to get my finger out. Literally!! (Did I mention I was in a band? I think I may have alluded to it in passing, lol )
You can cheat in that part by using your thumb for the root and a finger for the octave, give it a try
RandomBass
I must investigate, I was unaware there were other notes apart from the 'root' one could play.
You'll be fine, both root and octave are the root. So the if we take the root of the octave, and divide that by two - play that twice, we are back at the octave. Which is also the root. Maybe I should teach bass... Geoff
Conan
If cetera was still around I wouldn't need to post this one. Heard it on Planet Rock this morning, which reminded me...
