Pete Academy Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 I always liked their first album and thought the band was really cool. However, the latest album is probably the worst I've ever heard. They've turned into an auto-tuned pile of cheesy pop pap. Terrible. Quote
Fat Rich Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 Thought the first album was pretty OK throwaway pop but everything I've heard from them since has been dismal. I thought they might have turned into a pretty decent band but it seems not. Quote
pietruszka Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 What!? How dare you! I loved the last album, by which I mean Hands All Over. But yes, Songs About Jane is excellent. Dan Quote
Lfalex v1.1 Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 Marooned is what they should be. On a distant planet. Without any air. Quote
the_skezz Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 Most definately agree from what I know of Maroon 5 (admittedly only the hits). The singles off the first album, though not exactly high up on my playlist, were at least decent songs which I can still enjoy today. Then I heard Moves Like Jagger earlier this year, and hoped the rest of the album wasn't as dire. Checking out youtube, my fears were confirmed Quote
warwickhunt Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 I've covered a few of the tracks from the first album but agree that recent direction is pants! Quote
Valhalalf Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 I am a huge fan of their first album, loads of great funky pop tracks, The second album was pretty good and the last album was a bit meh. I have to say though I love playing Moves Like Jagger live. Quote
tauzero Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 Sadly, one of my covers bands does "Move like Jagger". Finally, a track I hate more than "Dance the night away". Quote
longtimefred Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 my thinking is that if its a band that have made the radio 1 playlist on a frequent basis, its usually toss. Maroon 5 joined that list very quickly with their recent stuff. Quote
skej21 Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 (edited) But without the new stuff, we wouldn't have funnies like this! Edited July 6, 2012 by skej21 Quote
ped Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 The production of the first album was really sweet. Drums sounded awesome. Dunno what happened to them. Ah well. Quote

Dunno what happened to them. Ah well.
Yep the production is outstanding on the first album. The drummer actually had a lot to do with it if I remember correctly, and he's done the production certainly on the following 2 albums even though he doesn't play for them. I personally like 'Moves Like Jagger', but I haven't heard any of the recent stuff beyond 'Hands All Over' so I can't cast judgment. And yes I call it Moobs like Jabba/Jagga to! We don't play to set lists so the stage signal for that one is cupping our 'breasts'! Dan Quote
peteb Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 Never really listened to them so can't compare their old stuff to the new but c'mon, Moves Like Jagger is a decent pop song! Quote
steve-soar Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 Move Like Jagger is f***ing quality. Superb piece of pop. But this is my favourite pop song of all time..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PWgvGjAhvIw Quote

steve-soar Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 Nah, only joking, I can't stand them. And the singer, with his tatts, w***er. I totally stand by Outkast, though. Quote
BassTractor Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 (edited) Mentioned this before, I think, but I hope it bears repeating: Eyal Amir, Jordan Rudess and Tammy Scheffer did a great vocals/iPad version of Moves Like Jagger: Edited July 6, 2012 by BassTractor Quote

Slightly OT but in a similar 'big first album but what happened next' kind of way, what ever happened to The Feeling? Quote
JTUK Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 Gotta go with the consensus here... good start but now a pile of pap.. Quote

The singer was an ex student of my dads and we're still in contact with him. They had 2 albums since, not as catchy as the first but still enjoyable to listen to. Quote
chardbass Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 I had no idea- big mainstream success with their first album. Heavy play listing etc. Enjoy the gig :-) Quote

crez5150 Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 (edited) Just had a quick look see..... Songs about Jane released in 2002...... 2nd album in 2007 thats some gap. Moves like Jagger also one of the best selling singles of all time. Lots and lots of touring. Edited July 7, 2012 by crez5150 Quote
