jonbd Posted July 5, 2012 Share Posted July 5, 2012 I'm on the lookout for a bass amp and was hoping I could get some recomendations. I have a £350 budget for a giggable lightweight combo. I play modern rock type music. I was looking at the TC Electronics BG250 and it seems to fit the bill, but I can't find it in stock anywhere! Are there any other comparable amps in the same price bracket? Are there any decent heads and cabs in that price range that aren't too heavy to lug around? If you`re in a band, my recommendation would be to go no lower on this for the power. Muzz Posted July 6, 2012 Share Posted July 6, 2012 (edited) There's a Roland D-Bass 115 for sale on here at the mo which is in your budget, they're a great combo, definitely giggable, and not too heavy either. The ad's nowt to do with me, but I had one (and the 115 powered extension for a stacktastic setup) for a while, and it's a very underrated amp. If it has to be a combo (and I'm not sure it does), then you can't go far wrong with Trace Elliot. Looks like i've got my work cut out!What I mean by lightweight is small enough to fit in the boot of my ford focus and lighter than the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe i've been lugging around for the last few years (about 20kgish). I just think other amps sound better, but if bang for buck ( cheap ) was the deal, then they would be right near the top on my list. 20kgs for a combo..??? isn't going to happen easily if you play hard. I suspect we will be seeing the lighter end of kit come back to haunt us in some respects... if that experience in P.A's is repeated. If you drive something hard and long you need a big engine that can do that all the time...if you are peaking out all the time, then something is more likely to break more quickly.. jonbd Posted July 16, 2012 Author Share Posted July 16, 2012 Well so far i've been very impressed by the amp! It's very loud for it's size and I had no problem being heard in a loud practice. Still yet to use it in a gig situation though! The toneprint stuff is pretty good, but annoying that I have to either connect it to a PC or use my phone to change presets. There is an on/off switch for that so i'll probably choose either a distortion or compression setting and leave it at that. The built in tuner works well.
