Hmm. Now I may be wrong - but I'm thinking that any value that this instrument may or may not have held is now long gone.

Personally, I'd avoid. But that's me.

I'd say the neck at least is Tokai judging by the machines

Agreed as soon as I saw the heads I thought Tokai Jazz Sound. Tokai also rather cheekily used an L prefix on their early MIJ serial numbers. Approach with caution.

Or used to be. It bears the tell-tail signs of amateur sanding... loss of definition to edges.

Thanks everyone. I found these ebay auctions which prove the facts.

It certainly isn't a '63 Jazz.

A 63 would have clay dots, not pearl.

The bridge should be spiral groves

There are no holes for the ashtray covers

Machine heads are the wrong shape

There should be a date stamp on the neck butt end

And it just doesn't look right!

the bridge saddles are different to my tokai. Looks older if anything and i think mines an '86

In the original ad he says that the saddles have been changed, also it would be an earlier model.

I almost bought an early surf green 81-82 Tokai for £300 on ebay about a month ago. That was all original so I'm thinking this one would be lucky to fetch £200.

the one up loch lomond way? with the schaller bridge? Was owned by someone on here, they couldn't get it set up properly, Jimmy Moon couldn't either so sold it for about £300 in Moon guitars stores- turned up a month later at twice the price in the lovely CC music with the action just high enough you wouldn't clock half the issues- sold and then a month later was on ebay again!

Sounds like some irony there.
I'd love to hear the story! :-)
