cloudburst Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 Hmm. Now I may be wrong - but I'm thinking that any value that this instrument may or may not have held is now long gone. Personally, I'd avoid. But that's me. CB Quote
LukeFRC Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 (edited) replacement pickups of some kind- added by someone who can't solder! in perfect condition....£450 or so.... in that condition..... er..... Edited July 6, 2012 by LukeFRC Quote
franzbassist Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 I am no expert, but I would say there is no way that is an L series Fender. Quote
Mr Bassman Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 I'd say the neck at least is Tokai judging by the machines 50 year old Fender machines look like this Quote

Tokai also rather cheekily used an L prefix on their early MIJ serial numbers. Approach with caution. Quote
deanovw Posted July 6, 2012 Author Posted July 6, 2012 That makes sense. Things start to fall into place. Quote

deanovw Posted July 6, 2012 Author Posted July 6, 2012 Thanks everyone. I found these ebay auctions which prove the facts. franzbassist Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 Well done team... so who's pointing this out to the eBay seller? Quote
ash Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 I think that honor should go to Mr deanovw but I'd be happy to deputise if necessary! Quote
deanovw Posted July 6, 2012 Author Posted July 6, 2012 I told the seller I would update them with anything I found. Email sent. Quote
simon1964 Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 It certainly isn't a '63 Jazz. A 63 would have clay dots, not pearl. The bridge should be spiral groves There are no holes for the ashtray covers Machine heads are the wrong shape There should be a date stamp on the neck butt end And it just doesn't look right! Quote
OliverBlackman Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 the bridge saddles are different to my tokai. Looks older if anything and i think mines an '86 Quote

gjones Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 I almost bought an early surf green 81-82 Tokai for £300 on ebay about a month ago. That was all original so I'm thinking this one would be lucky to fetch £200. Quote
mckendrick Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 That's never been a Fender as long as I've had a hole in my a***. Carry on. Quote

Was owned by someone on here, they couldn't get it set up properly, Jimmy Moon couldn't either so sold it for about £300 in Moon guitars stores- turned up a month later at twice the price in the lovely CC music with the action just high enough you wouldn't clock half the issues- sold and then a month later was on ebay again!
