tommorichards Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 Im looking for some nice tracks to play featuring these guys, preferably around the 70's era as i want to play more hard rock style stuff. Any help is appreciated. Quote
paul_5 Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 JPJ's playing on 'The Lemon Song' (Led Zep II) is a masterclass on 3 chords, in fact, all of zeppelin II is worth learning. Someone else will have to recommend some of Geezer's stuff as I can't get past Ozzy's voice, and consequently don't have any Sabbath. Quote
PURPOLARIS Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 Fairies Wear Boots has some nice bass in it as well as Iron Man. Quote
Ou7shined Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 Geezer is pretty much my original inspiration as a bass player. Check out Hand of Doom - plenty of dynamics. Quote
FelixGubbins Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 for JPJ I'd have to say Black Dog or Dazed and Cinfused, and Sabbath I'd say Behind the Wall of Sleep, through the bass solo, to N.I.B. These are just for starters, of course, as every track from both is a gem! Quote
bartelby Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 I recommend The Wizard and N.I.B for Geezer's baselines. Quote
tommorichards Posted July 7, 2012 Author Posted July 7, 2012 Some good ideas here guys. thanks veggie much. Quote
Lozz196 Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 I was listening to Communication Breakdown in the car the other day, and I mean actually listening, rather than just hearing it, as am not a Zep fan to be honest, and I was knocked out by JPJs bassline. Incredibly melodic. Think I`ll have to have a re-visit on Led Zep. Quote
GarethFlatlands Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012
I love JPJ's bass line on Ramble On.
+1. Really interesting and memorable line over what's bascially 2 chords. A soundcheck favourite. Quote
spongebob Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 Geezer-wise, I love 'All Moving Parts (Stand Still') from Technical Ecstasy. Bit funky! Don't forget - 'Junior's Eyes' from Never Say Die too - always love that. In fact, I love to jam with all the Sabs' 70's albums - loads of great stuff. Even though I probably am jamming some of it wrong! Great player, Geezer - never really gets the cred that many others, often unjustifiably, do. Quote
dudewheresmybass Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 Jpj- communication breakdown Geezer- into the void, dirty women, war pigs, children of the sea Quote
Ou7shined Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012
Fairies Wear Boots has some nice bass in it as well as Iron Man.
Not Terry himself but still good... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6DBHqdxZrd4&feature=watch_response Quote

Gust0o Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 Into The Void is my personal favourite - though I now hear that line in so many others! Quote
Graham Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 War Pigs is a fun Sabbath track to play. Dazed And Confused is a good obey for PJ, gets your right hand strength up too! Quote
dannybuoy Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 Basically the first two Black Sabbath albums! Also if you get the deluxe versions there is a B-side Wicked World that has a brilliant bassline! Quote
Cosmo Valdemar Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012
Basically the first six Black Sabbath albums!
Fixed. Quote
