EdwardHimself Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Yes it is entirely possible. The only possible issue may be that of neck tension, as IME the B string has a big effect on neck relief. Quote

Chris Horton Posted July 9, 2012 Author Posted July 9, 2012 I know that Andrew Gouche plays MTD bass guitars. But what other makes of basses do people use for de-tuning ? Is there a winning formula ? Quote
ThomBassmonkey Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 My Ibanez BTB406 spent a long time down a step. My only concern about a D-tuner (or especially A-tuner) on bass would be the tension shifting. It's quite a big change and going back and forth a lot would worry me. A decent bass should be ok though, but it'd still worry me. Quote
chrismuzz Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 I have a Peavey Grind down to A and it's great! I have a .152 gauge bottom string on it so that it has a more natural feeling to it, but you probably won't need it that big if you're not tuning down permanently... I know another guy who has his low A string at .135 gauge and he's happy with it! Quote
Chris Horton Posted July 9, 2012 Author Posted July 9, 2012 Thanks for all the replies so far guys , it has given me lots to think about Quote
Owen Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 I have put them on every 5 string I have owned for the past 15 years (I am not going to count). It works fine and dandy, there are no tension issues going up and down and you get to play lower notes. What's not to love? I only wish I could find one for my Status. Quote
Gust0o Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 I had an MTD Kingston Heir, which was really very cool - that went down to A. My Stingray 5 is now down to A also. No adverse effects in either case, though I do tune back up when they go on the rack. Quote
pauliebe Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 I have used a Hipshot D tuner for decades. Totally worth it. Great, smart innovation. Eb and D are very useable notes on a bass guitar. Quote
